Dell has just announced the immediate availability of two new monitors. Both of which support a display resolution of 3840x2160, both sport IPS panels, 10-bit per channel color and a 60Hz refresh rate. The P2415Q and P2715Q.

Dell-Unveils-24-and-27-Inch-4K-Monitors-

The 24" model carries an MSRP of $599 while the 27" model carries an MSRP of $699. I truly wish to see Dell release more IPS 60Hz 4K monitors with FreeSync support. Can't stand TN, will never settle for TN, want that smooth dynamic refresh rate !

You've looked at 24" and 27" 4k, 10-bit, 60hertz monitors next to each-other from a decent distance, and noticed a difference? Doubt it.

Why would you look at them from a distance thats un-realistic anyway.. meaning not TV's, but PC monitors, from a chair....up to 1.5m away... further than that seems to negate the point of having them and experiencing them fully, from a 24-27" inch point of view...

^Genuinely Curious

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

:)

I sit about ....hmm judging by the eyes about 50-70cm away from my screen in my chair, relaxing back in my chair, about 1m.

To my 27" 1080p panel, and I can say HOLY crap it looks shit.,..well not shit...but not fantastic (this close) & (by comparison to my downsampling 1440p with CRU in games)

I'd imagine the 4K experience at this distance, on a 27" panel, would be EPIC! (Minus the small scaling of text and such, which can be fixed right?)

Why pay $100 for three extra inches... ,that's what she said, just sit closer.

You wouldn't be able to notice any difference.

24" 4K = 183 PPI

27" 4K = 163 PPI

5" 720p = 293 PPI

5" 1080p = 440 PPI

So we can tell the difference between 293 and 440 Pixels Per Inch on our cell phones but 183 PPI is all of a sudden beyond our capability to perceive if its on a monitor? And yes I know viewing distance is a factor, but I don't view my monitor from much further of a distance than I do my phone.

Also the 24" 4K doesn't become "retina" until 19" or further away viewing distance. Meaning, in order to not see individual pixels on 24" 4K you have to sit at least a minimum of 19" away from the screen. You can calculate this on http://www.isthisretina.com

CPU: i7 4790K  RAM: 32 GB 2400 MHz  Motherboard: Asus Z-97 Pro  GPU: GTX 770  SSD: 256 GB Samsung 850 Pro  OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit

This is a great price. Hopefully it'll run the prices of competitors down.

ips panels are overrated.

No they aren't over rated you got a panel that has better color reproduction and viewing angel and ...... ??

Slightly unreasonable. I mean, I can give you a call in like 5 years on black friday if you want?

I stated that in my post. I said that for pixels to become indistinguishable on a 24" 4K display you need to be sitting 19" away or further. I think most people sit less then 19" from their computer screens. I'd say most are around 12" away from the screen.

Either way I don't see this being a logical panel at least for me. As I game and love sliding all those sliders to the right this monitor would be too much 1) for my price point, 2) my single Gigabyte G1 970 wouldn't be able to drive 4k at 60Hz at the settings I enjoy. And everyone has different eye sights and that makes it difficult if not impossible to say that someone else wouldn't be able to see all those pixels. It's almost like linus's video of his friend doing a blind test with the 120hz panel, his friend couldn't tell but linus could every time. Some can tell and some can't, and you can't tell what another person can or cannot see, at least not from any sort of a logical standpoint. Sorry for the story, kind of a passionate subject for me XP

It's not as unreasonable as you'd think....For right now, it's pretty unreasonable, but 24" 4k IPS panels will be around the $300 mark long before 5 years are up.

For gaming at 60Hz, 4K is still a waste of time for a lot of people when it comes to a lot of new games and the current GPU tech (1080p is a struggle for the industry for some reason)... but hey...

they won the internet with theyre monitor. but lost it with they're tech support.

Hmm? Dell are rather famous for their brilliant tech support. I've had the pleasure of dealing with them both as a general consumer and as a company customer and every single time they have responded, acknowledged the issue and taken immediate action in my favour.

Cheers,

Linus

24" 4k....whats the point? 4k should be 28"+

What do you mean "whats the point"?

1080p @ 24" looks awful, and 1440p doesn't exist at 24", not to mention I'd love to have the higher PPI of a 4k monitor without having a massive 28" monitor.

If someone came out with a 120hz 4k IPS, G-Sync monitor that would be the only monitor to buy. Although I would go for a 60hz model for less dough.
