Stuck between a rock and a hard place...

TopWargamer

I'll just let the texts speak for themselves... What do you guys and gals recommend that I do?

*Be warned, large images inbound*

So it all started with this...

Then instead of using a middle man, I started talking to my other friend directly.

A little more than half way through the above conversation is when this comes into play.

Your friends seem like idiots. No offense.

At least the one in the second text.

Ya...I know... But he's still my friend none the less. He's been with me through some rough times, and me with him. I just consider this a low point, because usually things get worked out in the end.

There were quite a few things I could have said to piss him off and prove my point or at least make a strong argument about a few things, but I was able to keep my cool, because that would have just made the situation much worse...

Yeah I've never really had a friend. Out of the like 4 friends I had in elementary only 1 will still hang out with me. One of them bullied for 3 years and the other one kinda just followed along and avoids me now.

TBH if one of my friend did that I would tell them to suck it up. They probably wouldn't get offended because that's the type of person I am, but you may  be different.

Ask his girlfriend about it? If she tells him it's fine he might change his mind? @TopWargamer

It seems like you only want the second friend to come over so that your other friends from your "group" will come. He doesn't seem like he really want to go, so if he doesn't want to, don't make him. I'm sure your other friends'll come for your birthday.

Don't over complicate everything. Just have fun on your bday. Don't let anyone ruin it for you.

Ya honestly your one friend in the second set of pictures is acting really immature. I would say just invite everybody and if they have a problem with it they can surely deal with it themselves and act like civilized adults.

I want everybody from that group of friends to come over.

Let me do a bit of explaining. (Bare with me with the names and whatnot.)

In one of my groups of friends there's 7 of us. The guy in the 2nd text conversation (Aj) is basically like our "leader" so to say. Dunno how else to say it. Then there's my friend in the 1st text conversation (Edward). They're really good friends and will blindly side with one another. Then there's Edward's brother (Chris). He also blindly sides with Aj.

Then there's Jonathan, who won't come since the other 3 aren't coming over, but still might because Sam will still more than likely come over, because he stays fairly neutral. Lastly there's another Jonathan (we call him Little John, since he's 5'2" or something like that) who would definitely still come over, but has college exams, so he can't.

Hopefully. I'm not good at this stuff.

If you couldn't tell from what I said earlier, I can kind of be a dick.

Actually I was talking with one of my friends how people are usually more douchy on the internet. And I told him that's the opposite for me. His response "John, you're different -- in a lot of ways". lol

I think you need to get some more solid friends.
I mean I get that every group usually has a dominant person, one that the others will follow and side with more frequently; at least at the age you're at now.

That changes though.

I'd start making your own group of friends who actually care about each other. If the other two won't hang out with you because the one friend won't, you need to ask yourself if they're really you're friends at all. I know it sounds harsh to say, but it's true.

It seems like you only want the second friend to come over so that your other friends from your "group" will come. He doesn't seem like he really want to go, so if he doesn't want to, don't make him. I'm sure your other friends'll come for your birthday.

Pretty much this. Maybe try inviting a few other people?

They're not adults yet though, really.

While the friend in the second set might be acting a tad immature I think it largely depends on his mind set. If he still has feelings for the ex, then I wouldn't go either.

If his gf has a problem with the ex (let's be real now, that's probably why, and not at all uncommon) then that's an issue as well.

I guess that is a good point. I am 18 and I just assume that I would act differently in this situation and just be able to put it aside and enjoy my friends party. Although saying that I have never dealt with a breakup as I avoided dating in elementary school as it seemed pointless and dumb, and now my current girlfriend and I have been dating for 2 years so I haven't had the awkwardness that a breakup can cause. Anyway I still think that he should try to just invite everybody, relax, and enjoy his birthday. I bet his friends will figure it out without much drama.

Oh I totally get that. As you get older though you'll realize that it can't always happen; there's just certain groups of people (or sometimes individuals) that don't mesh well together.

That's why I generally have two, sometimes three get togethers if they insist on me celebrating my birthday.

I generally get away with not doing it though. "Erm..nope. I gotta work."

Adults by age is far different than adults by maturity. I find most guys aren't really adults until their mid twenties. Youngin' ;)

RIGHT!?!?! I don't know about were you lived but in my city it seemed everyone felt the need to date in grades 6-8 and I just really didn't understand it. The unneeded drama it created was just stupid. Also apparently I have been lucky with my friends as I have only heard stories like that and never experienced them firsthand. Although I keep my friends group pretty close so perhaps that is why.

Haha, we're from a different time my friend. When I was a kid we'd all walk the 20 minute walk home. Alone. I don't think I'd let my kid do that these days.

There were a few people that'd date through grade 8 and 9 but mostly it started around grade 10? I didn't really start dating until grade 11.

So much missed opportunity.

Yeah, me too, but there's always acquaintances and such. I've avoided drama for the most part luckily.
