4690k or 8350

That's the truth.

Plus AM3+ is pretty much dead (9590 anyone?)

May AMD's beauty rest in peace :(

i5 hands down. Arguments for an i5:

1. Much much better single core performance

2. Not on dead socket

3. Lower TDP using less power

4. Same multi core performance as OCed FX (only appart from video rendering and 3D rendering)

The 8350 will severely cripple the capability of any 2 high end GPUs in SLI and CFX. For gaming the 4690K is a must for your GPUs.

Kind of.. again dependent on what you play, my 8320 could not feed my spare 290 in everything, though in 85% of cases it was all smooth as butter in well coded games and ones that can leverage the extra cores of the FX, but.... they are far and few between, we simply DO NOT need more than 4 cores right now, and i do not see it changing very suddenly, the consoles are using VERY slow CPU's albeit 8 cores, with only 6 dedicated to actual games.

I love my 8350, but the 4690K is probably the better option. And no, you should be fine :)

This unless you already have a decent AM3+ board

The 4690k outperforms the 8350 in 99% of games, programs, applications, etc...

But they don't all sit on the first 4 cores, it all depend on how you use your PC.

it all depends on what you are doing with your system.

Both architectures have theire pro´s and con´s.

That the i5 is better in everything, is totaly bullshit lol.

But if your main goal is gaming, then by all means, grab the i5.

Because its a better allrounder in gaming, unless we are talking about 4K.

Also, will either bottleneck 2 gtx 970's?

I have to assume that with two 970's you want either very high resolutions (like 4K at 60 FPS) or very high framerates (like 1080p at 144 FPS). In the former case, 60 FPS is 60 FPS and the FX-8350 would probably allow you to get there most of the time. But in the latter, high framerates will expose CPU limitations.

That said, why are you comparing a $240 Core i5 to a $150 FX-8350? The two don't really compete directly. Decide how much you want to spend first. Of course the Core i5 is the faster processor.

If you plan on 4K gaming, then a FX8350 is definitely not a bad choice ;)

But i assume this is not the case, so grab the i5

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-fx-8370e-cpu,3929-7.html

To put it nicely, the FX-8370 is a true middle-of-the-road CPU. Using it only makes sense as long as the graphics card you choose comes from a similar performance segment.

Depending on the game in question, AMD’s new processor has the potential to keep you happy around the AMD Radeon R9 270X/285 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 or 660 Ti level.

A higher- or even high-end graphics card doesn’t make sense, as pairing it with AMD's FX-8370 simply limits the card's potential.

Learned this the hard way myself with a 4.6ghz FX-8320 that was crippling my GTX780 by a noticeable amount at 1080p gaming...i highly suggest a locked core i5 and a cheap motherboard instead.

The money saved on the motherboard and CPU cooler (and some extra $ on the power bills) will largely cover the slighlty higher cost for the cpu itself.

Starting flame wars is against the CoC. Please stop and go away.

Did he edit his post or? Because his first post is saying that 4690K's will do much better in CF/SLI.

Which is the better and will be in future? Also, will either bottleneck 2 gtx 970's?

In the future the 8350 should be close and older I7's may close the gap on I5 (not surpass it). Now? Intel on 2 big GPU's. Intel on one big GPU if the game doesn't have Mantle support (which Nvidia GPU's wouldn't have).

Mantle is getting a lot of support lately and a AMD CPU and a AMD GPU can be a really good budget choice depending on what games you play.

MMO's? Intel I5 in a landslide. Emulators like Dolphin? Same. Everything else? Meh. You should be running into a GPU bottleneck before a CPU bottleneck. Piss poor CPU optimization in Ubisoft games and some titles makes CPU an issue though (when it shouldn't be).

To be blunt? You don't put two big cards on an AMD CPU, especially if they are not AMD GPU's. Get a I5 K and call it a day, or even non K and call it a day if you don't care about MMO's. CPU/GPU? Intel/AMD. Great. Intel/Nvidia. Great. AMD/AMD. Can make sense depending what you play. AMD/High end Nvidia cards? No. You shouldn't be getting an Nvidia GPU unil the GTX 970 anyways. The rest are a complete ripoff for price/performance. Tier should look like this for price/performance. R9 280>R9 290>GTX 970>GTX 980, and those last 3 can change depending on resolution/AA and game title and brand make/OC. 750ti is an option on crappy Dells/prebuilts where you can't switch a PSU out.

As someone else posted. This video is accurate, because different types of game titles mean different performance from the CPU. Worse the core optimization (older title like Skyrim), or more required from the CPU on one thread/core (like an MMO), the more Intel is ahead. GPU also matters. A lesser GPU and people will see different results. This is what makes the flame wars over these two CPU's stupid. We all play different games and we all do different things. I LOVE Dolphin emulator and MMO's and have a bigger GPU, so I have a Intel. That simple.

CPU:24/7-4770k @ 4.5ghz/4.0 cache @ 1.22V override, 1.776 VCCIN. MB: Z87-G41 PC Mate. Cooling: Hyper 212 evo push/pull. Ram: Gskill Ares 1600 CL9 @ 2133 1.56v 10-12-10-31-T1 150 TRFC. Case: HAF 912 stock fans (no LED crap). HD: Seagate Barracuda 1 TB. Display: Dell S2340M IPS. GPU: Sapphire Tri-x R9 290. PSU:CX600M OS: Win 7 64 bit/Mac OS X Mavericks, dual boot Hackintosh.
