Ps4 using third party publishers optional DRM. First party games easily tradable.

Sony first party games will not have DRM!

But third party games may have if the publisher is stupid!

Ps4 using third party game DRM.

The new playstation will be capable of restricting used games at discretion of the publisher, by providing the exact same system as the Xbone, with first party games easily tradable, and third party publishers having the right to restrict and lock down their games, with a product key system most likely.

Is the only benefit of the ps4 the lack of (always) online security checks and extra horsepower?

Both consoles are pretty much the same. Take kinect out of the xbox one bet it will be cheaper than the ps4. Another thing who really is bothered by these online checks?

You're not buying a console if you don't have internet anyway?  I can see it will be annoying if your internet is out but normally net is not down more than 24 hours.

Xbox one will change a lot before release day I know it.

This just my opinion as a pc gamer but its not over till they ship, They can remove and change software easily.

exactly, but when you think about it, this is exactly the same thing the XBone has said would be the DRM system, and it being optional to the publisher.

Still would get the ps4 for the more power, means the ps4 will have a longer survivable shelf life. also cheaper and doesn't require or come with the eye, something I don't want to pay for.

I have a feeling Sony will catch a lot of flak for this. I just hope the consumers see that while its part of the console gaming universe now, if Sony had the choice it would not be the path of stringent drm.

Wow your analysis is entirely wrong. Sony's plan is the same as the current way things work, that is to say season passes. A plan I might add, that is being abandoned. Xbox One's plan is a system-integrated online-check DRM using license keys.

So no, Sony does not have the same restrictions as Microsoft.

I feel like this is being misunderstood, so I'm going to try and clarify. This is, as Xorbot (and McFilmMakers) stated above, exactly what we have now and have had. All Sony is saying is that they will not deny companies to implement their own DRM policies if they so desire. This has always been that way. It is not the same thing as what XBOX One has in which they implement their own type of Always-Online policy with their 24 hour checks, independent of publishers' desires. Though this may have an effect on PS4, it is unlikely to see many companies move towards this as of right now as there is obviously great negative reaction and many don't seem to worried about pirating and game sharing. Sony's used game policy as a result will remain wonderfully lenient. At the very least, Sony stated that their games will not force any such DRM action or restrictions previously implemented as passes. Even the notorious EA is doing away with passes. Hopefully the PS4 will be the more prominent console this generation so that publishers are more hesitant to transition to the XBOX side of things and implement DRM or other restrictions on their products themselves. If anything I have said is wrong (mainly on the XBOX side, they are really so confusing with this bull crap) don't hesitate to correct, but from what I can tell, this is how it is.

Yes but sony is not implementing a system or a tool that locks your game to your PSN account. which is what microsoft is doing making it easier for publishers to simply flip switch and prohibit used games.

with sony the publishers have to used a different method of authentication outside PSN, this is what EA tried to do with online passes.

You mean EA? Of course! Duh? Unless they have a change of heart then that's cool.

The point Sony made was that the console itself would not require internet therefore no DRM for the console. But for games that it different. The difference is that there is a choice for consumers to either buy a game that they can actually play with no problems of buy a game that they cannot play because it requires an internet connection. Sony did not lie, besides the PS3 and XBox 360 did the same thing as the PS4. All in all there will be no change to single player titles for the PS4 as it is unlikely that they will have any DRM unlike multiplayer titles which are multiplayer so you would need an online connection anyway.
