for about 2 years i was running my old setup, and the only difference is i replaced my 2 680's with the new 980 from msi.
all my other specs are in signature.

my system keeps crashing, when i first put in my 980 it wouldn't even start for about an hour.  I'm now preparing everything to do a format. I hate formats, but i'm hoping with a clean system all problems will be solved.
also, i have 1 monitor on dvi and one on display , i'm replacing the dvi as soon as the back order arrives, BUT my display port monitor is acting weird, and then everything goes to hell.

again... i'm hoping a format will clear every bad software laying arround and solve everything, but anybody have better ideas? i don't want to rma my 4 days old 980, because i will flip... i switched to msi because i had a bad experience with asus, but at least asus products work when they work , they don't do weird... they either work, or they don't...

help me out! if anybody has a clue what could be the problem

Most people get offended when I ask this, but did you uninstall the old drivers?

yes, because when i put the 980 in, my second monitor did even work, so i figured that the drivers needed to be reïnstalled, and i allways remove old drivers before i install the new one

People get bad hardware.  Deal with it.  Also after 4 days do you RMA it to the store you bought it from and have free return?  I know that some pc stores offer this.

In regards to the card check temperatures with it as it runs.  Check to see if the fan is working.  Also heck check to make sure all power connectors are connected and that the card is seated properly.

OP could you please tell us the exact model of the card you got also?

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

The old drivers shouldn't cause that. I've booted up with drivers for my 660 Ti when I installed my 970. System booted with the default driver.

it's not a bad gpu, because it works perfectly when it works, i think it's a software conflict because it overclocks without a problem (when it works)

It's called having decency. I nearly sucker punched a guy for swearing to me in front of my mother. It's out of line and shows a lack of education, particularly in people who use it often.

OP did you see the MSI sticker issue with GTX 970s?  No joke. It is mentioned all over the place when you do searches.  Remove the sticker improperly or whatever and it causes fan issues. LOL

i removed it as carefully as you can pull of a sticker that was placed in a way it was nearly impossible to move.... i watched my temps in gaming and fan speeds, and that's not the problem, they both still work and temps don't get to high. Again, that's why i'm thinking software issues

Really..?

Because some educated people swear just as often as some uneducated people.

OP - tried swapping display cables yet? <-- because...you never know, weird bugs n stuff

A good product doesn't just work when it feels like it. Either it's a hardware fault or a conflict somewhere. Since Nvidia to Nvidia, there shouldn't be much of an issue if anyway. Still not a bad idea to use driver sweeper and wipe the drivers clean before installing new hardware just to make sure. Assuming this was a simple swap and nothing else was done when these problems occurred, it could be a faulty graphics card.

Edit: Why the feck would you randomly pull stickers off a new graphics card and potentially make the warranty pointless on a part you're not going to be staring at? That's dumb.

1) just ignore that guy... he's 22 years old and has nothing better to do then say stuff like that... i'm guessing he's an coward or something :)

2) i did not, i do have to mention that my cables are bundled together to clean things up you know

and that would only explain a bad working monitor, not crashing my entire pc?

i can't do anything now, because of the back up for the format i was planning, so once that's done i will do the format (it's been 2 years, so there will be some junk sitting around) if it then still doesn't work like it should i know for sure it's the gpu
and yes... i did try another display port in case it could be just a bad port

Judging by the guys responses, he is obnoxious (or being obnoxious right now) and thinks it is cool to act angry and "tough". People like that are annoying.

You may just have a DOA card. I would put a 680 back in and see if it will boot. If it does, then the issue would be the card. If it doesn't boot, then there is another issue and a reformat would be the way to go.

Anything that has a signal, that can get broken/disrupted, can lead to RANDOM things like that.

Again... you never know for sure until you test.

as @DeViLzzz said it can be the sticker, cover it wiith a black not white tape and see if it works.. jk.. but seriously there are issues with the 970/980 and their sticker hahahha.. try a different monitor. sounds like a bad port or adaptor, i had the same issue with a gtx480.

The blood on to your heart start pumping faster when you notice me.
