iMac iSwitched - should I convert at home or at work?

LinusTech

Definitely work. I use a Mac for work and a PC for home (gaming). It's a pretty good life.

Our whole company uses it for software development and design. I would just point out, Mac has some nice features for living in their ecosystem, like my work phone is an iPhone, and I can text and call from messenger. Messenger can remotely connect to other coworkers' computers very easily, and airdrop is pretty convenient for quickly sharing files. There are a ton of little things that Mac builds into their OS/Ecosystem that have become very nice parts of our workflow. Just so know, you're going to be missing out on some of the feature set by not having everyone in the Mac world, but it's still a good device, even if it's probably going to get hated on by a lot. I couldn't live without a UNIX command line.

I'm curious to hear an unbiased opinion of the 5k screen. I've only read things so far that seemed pretty biased either way.

work because you can't game on a MAC

Yea you can. Your arguement is invalid. Why else would steam exist on a mac if you can't game. Think before you post if you don't want to be called out.

I want to hear from you guys. I'm going to switch to a Mac for 30 days and I want to know if you want me to do it at work or at home.

You should do 15 days at work and 15 days at home

Personally I find iOS is good for adobe applications and other editing software while Windows is best for gaming. So just have the mac for work and bring back the work pc home for some badass modding.

You mean OSX?

I am an iMultiPlatformer. Using OSX Yosemite as my daily driver, with visits to Win7 and Ubuntu for work and school. So I'm very curious to see what Linus says about my home OS...

Fine you want the PSU tier list? Have the PSU tier list: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-40-rev-103/

Apple: The new iMac has a 5k display

People: Woah that's cool.

Apple: Yeah the display itself costs $5000

Thanks so much for all the comments everyone I'm going to close the polls since it looks like the decision has been made by the community!

I think from reading people's explanations even many of the people who selected home will be happy with the work impressions because many seemed concerned that my work was very specialized but most of what I do in my PC at work is researching, reading, writing, Web navigation, etc. The only main diff is that I don't game at work.
