iMac iSwitched - should I convert at home or at work?

I want to hear from you guys. I'm going to switch to a Mac for 30 days and I want to know if you want me to do it at work or at home.

Maybe a little from column A little from column B? To get a good feeling of the overall experience?

 

Idk how your workload differs between home and work.

I think you should, just to give a fair and balanced side of things. Also, what kind of workloads do you have at work vs at home?

I would say work. If home usage is just browsing the web, checking email, watching streams/youtube vids/netflix, going on facebook, twitter, then imho it should be the same experience going from Windows to Mac. At work, you're constantly moving things around and need actual productivity.

At work. The 1440p screen is not bad at all for multi-tasking, but you'll still get the feel the crunch of being stuck on mac, BUT with parallels, which works seamlessly, your experience will likely be positive since you don't need to run games. 

 

Bind the multi desktop function to a mouse side button. You'll thank me later. You can almost get away with multitasking on one monitor. 

 

 

Also, the fatter last gen iMacs made great coffee warmers. They don't really blow much air to stay quiet, and the top gets really, really, hot. 

Can't balance a coffee or an English muffin on the new ones, and that sucks.

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Work, everyone always says Macs are great for productivity so let's see that.

Definitively at home; Feels like work could limit the use cases. Not like there's much to learn from/about OSX anyway, I guess.  :rolleyes:

I think that work will be better. Everyone knows that you do a lot of gaming and the Mac is not about games. But in work it can be useful for you and it's good for it. So, work?

I would say do it at Home, because that way if you really struggle to use it, it won't impact your work and thus your business :)

Personally I find iOS is good for adobe applications and other editing software while Windows is best for gaming. So just have the mac for work and bring back the work pc home for some badass modding.

Work is where you actually get shit done. And when something isn't working right or just isn't normal to you in the OS, you will really notice. And have fellow windows users to laugh at you and your misfortune. lol.
