Would you buy a nexus 6 just for lollipop and future updates?

Imabigmac

Complete noob in regards to android, but I really like the look of the nexus 6, not a huge fan of size though. So as it's just a bigger version of the moto x, only specs and size and os differ. Would it be better to get the nexus over the moto x just for better future update support and a newer os?

I like the one plus one but the fact it uses a complete custom os concerns about about future updates.

I don't plan on having my phones for more than a year or two anyway, so I go off of features, size, aesthetics first.

Having the original Moto-X - it recieved updates faster than most, and was only slowed by the fact its with verizon.

6" is too big for me....

No, I hate how it looks and 6" is just ridiculous, 5" is my absolute limit and 4,7 is the sweet spot.

I agree with that... Still using an iPhone 3GS after my samsung G S4 decided to die on me. And I pleasurely greeted my 3.5" screen back. (had the oportunity of getting a SG Note 2 but declined it.

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link

I thought only play store devices were going to get lollipop? Or is that just initially and others to follow?

And then after lolli won't they drop the support for newer os's. Like they won't update the nexus 4 or am I wrong?

I wouldn't get it because of both the screen size and the cost, it's like google have gone for a form over function phone here, not what is wanted. I personally would rather get a moto X or nexus 5 or OPO, which all have guaranteed updates to lollipop, and if they don't get the ones after, I'd just use CM to get them.

No because I think 6" is far too big, the size I like the most is 4.7" but 5" is pretty good too, 6" just looks stupid.

I wouldn't get it unless you've tried carrying around a phone of that size, you're fine with it, and you get it cheap on a contract.

A lot of people were returning the iPhone 6+ because they simply found it too large to manage.

The Nexus 4 is getting the Lollipop update, as are a slough of other devices. It's up to the manufacturer to push them, not Google, and most don't invest the time.

Why not get the Nexus 5? It's a more manageable size. The Moto X is all right, but hasn't gotten the most glowing reviews and apparently suffers from some poor build quality.

As for the OnePlus, the OS is probably the only solid thing about it, and that's because it's not made by them it's made by Cyanogenmod. They've been around for a long time, so OS support will be much, much better than hardware support.

Not a fan of the nexus 5.

the OPO is probably going to have a long ass support for updates, since its running CM, and those guys still port the newest version of android to as much devices possible, i think the GS2 a 3+ yo phones has full official support for CM11 and probably 12 too, as long as the hardware can use it, its going to get support from the CM guys

this is one of the greatest thing that has happened to me recently, and it happened on this forum, those involved have my eternal gratitude http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/198850-update-alex-got-his-moto-g2-lets-get-a-moto-g-for-alexgoeshigh-unofficial/ :')

Interesting, I'm not a fan of the nexus 5s looks but maybe it would warm up on me. My friend just got a one plus one, I have used it briefly and I didn't mind it's 5.5 screen. What's not "solid" in the hardware?

It's a little plain I agree but I love the soft touch.

Just the company in general. I don't know how they'd handle any RMA issues, they've given up on the swappable back covers, some people had issues with the finish wearing off, etc etc.

I just don't trust the company anymore.

The 6 is a fair bit bigger than the OnePlus, as well.

I'm coming from windows phone, and i don't want to spend that much on a device that is almost as big as my iPad mini, its just not a sensible choice. I much prefer the moto x and nexus 5 in size, I'd much rather have them, as I don't care about QHD screens and the very latest SoC
