Nexus 5 possible flawed display glass

Boink

Over the weekend I dropped my Nexus 5 from about 2 ft. off the ground and "caught" it with my foot which lowered the drop to about 1 ft. However, when the phone hit the ground (hard tile) the glass still cracked, resulting in several long cracks across the entire display. The damage, although only cosmetic, seems a bit excessive given the nature of how far it fell. Does this seems like the result of a manufacturing defect in the display glass or is it normal among phones like this?

The cost to repair the display looks like it will be between $100 - $150. I bought the phone through T-Mobile, which unfortunately excludes me from being able to trade mine in for another through Google.

I've built 3 PC's, but none for myself... In fact, I'm using an iMac that my dad bought for me as my desktop. Awkward...

Please don't say "SSD drive." By doing so, you are literally saying "Solid State Drive Drive" and causing my brain cells to commit suicide. The same applies to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express).

Nope, no flaw there. The glass isn't shatter proof, it's less prone to getting scratches.

It's not a defect if it was caused by a drop

It's physical damage all the same.

Glass is interesting in that if you hit it just right it will break. It's very likely that it only broke because of how it hit the ground not with the force that it hit with.

I am guessing it landed on it's side and all the force went through the edge causing the crack.

They are not responsible you are, next time buy a case or be more careful.

LG is a bit stupid about that. I asked the support, if a crack back glass voids my warranty. The guy said it will be fine. Send the phone in and warrenty got rejected.

They will probably be like that on your case too, but I do have heard of random Nexus glass cracking.

I had a case on the phone, I guess I should have mentioned that earlier.

A drop is still a drop.
