LGA775 Core2Duo, Core2Quad OVERCLOCKING guide

harrynowl

The MCH core is the NB. It still fails. Is jt because of my ram that is holding me back? Anything else i can try xD

leave the pcie at auto. is the mch core the nb or fsb voltage? try 1.32v on that and vcore@ ~1.26

well it should have a multipiler like the cpu does. it might say 667,800,1066 etc. atm you will have it set to 800 , but if you set it to 667 then it will slow back down again.

Problem is the slowest speed is usually 1/2th the FSB :( so any FSB over 1600 takes 800MHz out of spec.

that is true. what will give more performance- an extra 200mhz on all the cpu cores or the fsb+ram being faster?

Think I may just get a z77 board instead, they're like the same price as 775 boards.   Only issue is I'm sure there's WAY more records that are much harder to beat on z77 compared to 775.

Only issue then is CPU's are a bit more expensive, and I can't bench as many for the same price, on the other hand I can let my mom use the board & cpu when I'm done.

the cpu's are more expensive and there are way less unlocked cpu's that you can overclock.

1, Don't trust that seller, he sold me a manufacturer refurbished P5Q turbo, with a broken RAM latch. And after I paid for it the listing was changed to 'broken of for parts'.

2. You pay for what you get, and what you get is a motherboard that's no longer made and dwindling in stock.

Hi guys, been reading through the guide here and haven't really seen anyone with anything similar to my setup and wanted to get some feedback on OC'ing it.

I have a Q8400 on an ASUS P5G41T-M/CSM board (G41 chipset) with 8GB of G.Skill DDR3-1066 (2x4GB) and a Nvidia 560GTX Superclocked .  I inherited the CPU a few years ago and after a long, arduous divorce I built the system on a semi-shoestring budget.  I haven't really been into overclocking seriously, so when i bought the board/memory I just tried to match it up and get what seemed to be best bang for your buck at the time.  I used to play games quite a bit and was wanting to get back into it with my buddies and play some GTA V.   I want to overclock this thing to it's maximum capabilities with my current hardware.  I have a little leeway with funds, but not enought to justify a new board/CPU/GPU as I am a single parent and all.  I was looking into a Cooler Master 212 Hyper EVO for upgraded cooling, but water cooling is a bit out of reach.

I'm not making any assumptions that I can run this game at Ultra settings and get 60 FPS, I just want to see if I can make what I have work for the time being, then maybe later on upgrade to some newer tech.  New job here recently is going well and after this year may be making significantly more money.  Instill me with your wisdom and let me know what I should reasonably expect from this CPU in terms of overclock potential and how to get there.  Thanks in advance.

CPU:  AMD Ryzen 5 3600(Stock Clock)

Cooler: EVGA CLC 280

Motherboard: ASUS X570 TUF Gaming Plus WiFi

GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super Windforce OC3

RAM: 32GB(2x16GB) G.Skill TridentZ RGB 3600

SSD: WD Blue 3D NAND M.2 250 GB

HDD: Seagate BarraCuda 2TB

Case:  Fractal Design Meshify C

Well your CPU can probably do around 3.5GHz but on that board you'll be pushing it past a minor 200-300MHz overclock. I'd just go up on the FSB in steps of 50 until it doesn't work. You'll probably be chipset limited before you're voltage limited.

Thanks Harry.  I bumped it to 383 and posted ran fine.  433 was a no go.  Bumped it back to 400, no dice.  399 got me a 3.21Ghz clock and seems to be running pretty well.  I'm gonna futz with it today and see how it tolerates it.  Just for grits and shins, what would be a good OC motherboard for this CPU that wouldn't break the bank.  I have some buddies that have access to some used stuff from time to time, might have them look out for something for me.
