3gb of VRAM gonna be enough for 1920 x 1080 for a few years?

certain games have absoultely ridiculous texture settings, for example titanfall has a setting that will not run at anything lower than 3GB of Frame buffer.

most games I have played at 1080p consume in the 1.5GB ballpark of framebuffer.

dont think you will have an issue until you get bigger than 1920x1080

No not really, Crysis 3 on Ultra @ 1920x1200 will max out all 4GB of VRAM on two 290 in X-Fire with 100% usage on both cores and games are only getting more intensive so be prepared to upgrade in two years or so to keep maxing out games at 1080p.

We can hope. 1GB was enough for 1600p 4 years ago and now it's barely enough for 900p.

Depends if the game is poorly optimized or not. Prime example of this, WATCHDOGS! Honestly, 3GB should suffice for a few years, at least in my opinion.

i've used 1.7gb in world of tanks at 1080p, ive also used 800mb in multiple AAA titles at high settings at 1080p.
at 2gb of ram im not worried in the slightest, 1gb is enough for most still (hasnt changed in the last year).
if anyones willing to show a print screen of msi afterburner showing gpu/settings/cards id love to see it.

Could I extend the question? Would the 970m 3gb be enough for at least high settings at 1080p for the next few years or would a 870m (with more vram) or 880m be better?

Depends what you're doing, for example if you mod games like Skyrim a lot then you'll hit 3GB pretty quick
