Kickstarter games backing appears to be in decline

It turns out that pledges for games on Kickstarter are on the decline as new statistics are suggesting that crowd funded games are making half as much as they did in 2013. Based on data from the first half of this year, analyst firm, ICO, is expecting to see $27,023,480 poured in to gaming projects this year.

So it looks like Kickstarter games are starting to let less money. At least Star Citizen is good, right? Guys?

Additionally, we’ve seen around a 20 per cent drop in gaming projects on Kickstarter, last year, 446 games were successfully funded, while this year we’re only expected to see 350. ICO analyst, Thomas Bidaux, explained why he thinks Steam Early Access has had an impact on crowd funding:

As said above, games successfully getting funded are becoming less common it would seem.

My thoughts:

I personally never backed anything on kickstarter, I have bought a couple early access games, but I did get a product for that. Unless the project is reaaaaally cool or has someone well known and trustworthy behind it *cough coug* star citizen  *cough cough*.

I don't think anyone has posted this already.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

this is because they already spent money on games last year and want to wait for those to complete first

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

I think it might have something to do with some controversies. Mighty No. 9 stands out where the community manager is proving to be a very vile person. She's even blocked BACKERS from the CORPORATE Twitter since she can't keep personal and professional business separate. Imagine donating 300 dollars and being flipped off. Several outraged people called up for chargebacks. I believe it is a combination of controversy like that and vaporware. Kickstarter was a novel ideal, but too many are ruining it.

I don't necessarily think it's because the projects are getting "worse" or because people feel like spending less money. I just haven't seen any super high profile kickstarter projects this year. No big names, celebrities, etc.

Probably because now early access is the new thing.  Why get a kickstarter going when you can release an alpha build for full price to fund development?

the forums :(

Just ignore it for long enough and maybe the forums will fix itself, or we'll just slowly get used to it. It's not that as a group we didn't originally have issues, its just that throwing thousands of new people into a group makes pre-existing issues and sub-group tensions more apparent.

Damn right.  Can't wait for the final game.  The Forest wasn't half bad either.  I had my doubts about it, but it turned out to be pretty cool for such a small development team.

A game feels like too big a project to truly trust completely onto someone with little to no experience and very little to show for it.

Never heard of the game. The lady sounds like a douche. I hope they fired her/cancelled her contract.

to many people with bad business ideas, and unrealistic expectations have made  people lose interest in it.

That's not it at all, people are losing interest in it, because big publishers are invading Kickstarter to "test" game ideas they wouldn't fund, or to create a "budget cushion" for a game they're going to fund anyway.

Bandits.

MInimum requirement for Kickstarter should be that publishers are kept out, and the funding campaign is handled by and benefit devs directly.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

I somewhat saw this coming...

There's no assurance that if a project was successfully backed, it would hit the market... I remember news about KickStarter revamping their ToS for this but it might have been done too late...
