Should i keep my current 770 and go sli or sell it and get a single 970/980?

melias24

Hey guys, so i'm wondering should i sell my current GTX 770, and buy a GTX 970/980 or keep my 770 and go sli. My current 770 has 2gb of VRAM, will this be enough till the end of next year if i go sli?

Thanks,

~Elias

Go for a 970 or 980. SLI isn't really useful unless you can't get the performance you need out of a single card.

In the nearish future, a 770 isn't going to be pushing ultra settings at playable fps, especially if you go beyond 1080p. That said, its still in that price/performance sweet spot and you can still get good-looking smooth playing games for time to come. But if you want a real upgrade right now, getting some more VRAM is going to be one of the most "future oriented" upgrades you can do.

2GB of VRAM is fine for 1080p so if you're on 1080p and plan on staying that way but want more power it would be a good upgrade as 770's are stupid cheap right now. That is of course if your motherboard and PSU can support SLI. Two 770's would give you more grunt that a single 980 but it would limit you in the future especially if you wanted to increase your native resolution.

Ok, well, my current monitor is only 1650x1050 or something like that, so i'm not playing on a very good res. screen, but i will be upgrading to a 1080p soon, so should i just go sli?

Yes, SLI 770 will be more a better idea for 1080p since you already have one.

I prefer not to go sli unless necessary, but sometimes it can be hard to resist. A lot of it is preference.

Keep it. I'm keeping my 770 until possibly next generation or maybe even after that. Once I have to go down to medium, I'll probably upgrade. And at 1080p, I'm still playing ultra.
