The iPhone 6 plus bends, when carrying it in your front pocket! Permanent bend and OFFICAL iPhone 6 Plus Bend Test (Update from 25.09.2014)

LarsReviews

Denting =/= permeneant damage. Aluminum bends fairly easily -- not just macbook pro aluminum.

Also, go to any high school where students can use laptops, I'll put money on this statment: All the macbook pros look perfect with the exception of a few scuffs and maybe a dent or two, and any windows laptop has missing pieces, is be held together by tape, has missing hinge or screen covers, or is separating.

I've been using macs for 8 years now, and the two that I've had are still in perfect condition -- excluding the palm rest on my 2007 Mac book pro since the plastic part of it has been worn quite a bit by palm sweat.

In my school people can use laptops, I haven't seen any that was even scratched yet. In my previous school there were plenty of dented mbs and windows laptops in perfect conditions (not ALL windows laptops were in perfect conditions, but a lot were). I personally own a 13 year old ibm laptop with a celeron in it that still works as new (except the battery, but if I really cared I could easily replace it) and i can guarantee you that it's 100% plastic save the actual electric componentry. I agree that aluminium is the problem, so maybe they should stop using it and stop forcing you to pay more for it as if it was a "feature"? It looks cool, no question about it, as I said they care more about looks than build quality.

I'm not saying that with good care you can't keep a mbp undamaged, you can (as with almost everything that isn't an ultra cheap knock off) but that doesn't make the construction quality any better. Denting is not permanent damage, but it happens from 20ish cm. Imagine what a 1m fall could do.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Apple : Only 9 complaint so far. Hard to believe... But if true, you can see how anti-Apple people can blow out things out of proportions.

Personally, I'm still waiting for a test with mesured pressure applied to different phones.

I linked one such test on the last page, though more are very welcome.

Lets say Apple is correct in the 9 so far. Not the ones where people willingly bend their damn phones. 9 actual, genuine cases.

That is 9 out of 10,000,000. I use 10,000,000 since thats the last number we got for units sold.

Thats a 9e-7 rate of failure. Thats a rate, if true, so small that I need to use that format.

Thats bloody small.

So, it has been confirmed that the iPhone 6 bends.

But, the real question is; does it blend?

Intel i7 6700k @ 4.8ghz, NZXT Kraken X61, ASUS Z170 Maximus VIII Hero, (2x8GB) Kingston DDR4 2400, 2x Sapphire Nitro Fury OC+, Thermaltake 1050W

Well, the 9 complaints aren't the total used to calcul the failure rate. There's probably other issues too which would account in the said failre rate. But your "9e-7" made me smile so I'll say your 100% right :)

@Victorious Secret I watched the video. It's nice to see what's going on. 100lbs of pressure seems like a lot no ? Nonethless, the Note3 bending back in position is kinda cool. Thx for posting.

I've dropped my MacBook several times with the lid open onto a concrete floor. I filed out the dents and polished it a bit and now it's good as new!

To myself : What the fuck is he doing ?

15cm is nothing. When I walk into my dorm every night I toss my MacBook Pro across the room onto my couch. Sometimes it hits the wall, sometimes it hits the floor.

To myself : Ok, never let him handle my Macbook...

:)

Bloody small, but then again it's only been a few days since the release.

This is not like there's a relatively small batch of faulty 3rd-party chips on the motherboards, like was the case with the random reboot problems of the original HTC Desire.  It's a major f**k-up in the phone's design itself, so ALL iPhone 6+'s are affected.  Out of that 10 million, the 9.999.991 that are still straight simply haven't yet been in a situation where sufficient force is applied to them.

@LarsReviews some more goodness.

Phone torture test porn, if nothing else.

I don't know if Bendghazi will end anytime soon (Its Apple, so it'll get brought up for the next few eons) but I'm happy to say "#yolo" and move on.

If I put my phone in such a compromising position that it bends, then shit. Apple might be idiots for not reinforcing it better but I'd also be the idiot who managed to bend my phone in the first place. Lose lose by all accounts.

I smell PR bulls**t.

If they really did test them so rigorously, the problem would have been known and fixed long before the release.

Also, you don't hire new engineers for 9 (assuming that's a real number, after all we did get it from Apple themselves) phones that failed because of a fault that you claim is caused by another company's manufacturing problem.

Well it's the Verge so what do you expect. The same site who criticized all phablets for being too big and uncomfortable to use with one hand.

Oh did I say "all phablets"? Sorry, I meant all except the iPhone 6+.

As far as I know, all phone manufacturers do these kinds of tests. Facts are facts though, the iPhone 6+ is more likely to bend that other phones (as shown by multiple tests, one or more of which were very scientific).

Now we just need to wait and see how many reported incidents of this appears. The more that appears the more of an issue it is. If it's just a handful then Apple should just replace them for free (no matter if you got AppleCare or not!). If it's very widespread then they will need to do something more drastic (free case maybe and then improve the design for the iPhone 7S+ or whatever it will be called). Hopefully we will just move away from aluminum phones because I've been saying that it's a bad material for ages now, but nobody listened.

9 official complaints according to apple, that's pretty darn low, altough it makes me wonder how many people did it on purpose and thus won't be refunded(their own fault)

The title says "front pocket" but wasn't it in the back pocket of your pants?

since it happens when you sit on them.

May the light have your back and your ISO low.

This is a pretty interesting video. By hte same guy, so it's probably as "close" as we'll get to someone giving the phone the same amount of pressure.

Obviously it's no where near scientific but at least his strength is the same.

It shows the iPhone 6, Moto x 2014, HTC M8, and Nokia 1020.

Interestingly enough the devices with the curved backs are quite resilient.

@Victorious Secret I think this might give you a bit of piece of mind.

To be expected considering they're curved I suppose. try bending a sheet of paper perpendicular to the axis of the curve and you'll see.

There's also other things to consider, like what MKBHD mentioned.

Tea, Metal, and poorly written code.

I doubt people would bend their new phone just to have them replaced. They don't gain anything from doing so.

The thread OP linked to states that some of them has been bent in the front pocket. Your phone will be put under some stress even in your front pocket (if you for example use jeans), and even a fairly small amount of pressure over a long time might be enough to bend it.

I think it was (predictably) blown out of proportion by competitors. I mean wouldn't you take a cheap shot if you were under the foot of millions of sales in a few days? That'd get me bent out of shape hor hor hor!

yeah, altough i really start doubting some stories wich i hear/read, like someguy that had it nearly folded(claim, but no proof) altough the amount of reported cases is truelly small.

just like all people saying "it's a feature!" there are people who start confusing it with apple saying that, altough they didn't do it.

@LarsReviews did you bring your popcorn? This has now crossed into full blown conspiracy theory levels of madness.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/bendgate-truthers-claim-found-real-101714998.html
http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/news/bendgate-faked-clock-inaccuracies/

As Pocket-Lint reports, there may be something strange going on with the time shown on the iPhone 6 in the original video that caused the story to go viral.

Reddit user "akrosdabay" has written this analysis of why people are starting to call foul over BendGate:

When he is bending it with his bare hands, the phone shows 2:26 p.m. Then, talking about it that later claiming it has bent as a consequence of his actions earlier in the video, the phone shows 1:58 p.m. Then later when he is summarizing, the time on the phone is 1:58 - 2:00 and has a bend in it. Then it shows 2 p.m. and the phone is straight with some possible damage near the volume button.

Notice the video shows the iPhone 6 Plus drastically bending at 1:40 minutes, and the time on the phone at that point displays 2:26 PM. The man in the video then proceeds to explain around 2:35 minutes into the video that he just finished bending the phone with his thumbs.

But there’s one problem with that version of events: The iPhone 6 Plus he supposedly “just” bent displays the time 1:59 PM around 2:45 minutes into the video, roughly 27 minutes before the smartphone is shown succumbing to little pressure.

Conspiracy? Bad time keeping? Baked clams?

Who knows. I just love how self aware this has become. The conspiracy has a conspiracy.

Someone call Nolan and Leo, we should make Inception 2 based off this.

Maybe Lou is so strong he not only bent the iPhone, but he also bent time and space?
