Need help building computer. Don't know where else to go.

JustJoan

I'll put a TL ; DR down below.

I was on Youtube and saw this guy point me to this site and said you people can help me. Um, I'm also in college for computer science. I wanted computer engineering so I don't know why they threw me in there, but that's a whole other story. I'd also like to know why you guys chose the parts you chose and how they interact/fit together. So it's in a way a win win, I get to build something (I like building.) and I get some additional knowledge while attending college (Although I will say that, lately I've been feeling like computers isn't for me.).

Uh budget is where people start right? Um, $400-$600 sounds good. Maybe $500-$600. OS's are like $100 aren't they? So, I'll probably be looking at a $500 computer with $100 in the OS. F**k so much money :( . I'm aware of migrating and cloning OS, but I don't know if it's legal. Also, there's some weird thing with my current hard drive. Something about ntfs, some error 766f6, and that I'll need to restore at an earlier point in time, but they won't let me because my c drive is corruptted, but I'm using my computer just fine.

Does location matter? I'm in Florida. I also live near a TigerDirect store so I'm hoping to just go there for parts. In fact I'd prefer to go inside a store to buy parts instead of ordering online.

I'll be using this computer for like normal things. Going to internet, listening to music, just general everyday computer stuff, but I want to play video games on it as well. I use my xbox 360 for Skyrim and fighting games. The games I like on the computer are MOBA's (Things like League, Smite, and Infinite Crisis.),  I like MMORPG's (I think that's what they're called. Games like Vindictus and Path of Exile.), I also like the occasional shooty pew pew (Like Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, Blacklight Retribution, and Battlefield.). Shooting games aren't really a, I don't really care for them much. Just something to just go in and play a quick round and then leave.

I don't want a super high plasma hd ultra graphics. Just medium-high is alright.

I don't really have a preference on brands. I'm not brand loyal. If it has good reviews and ratings then I'll go with it.

I don't know the numbers either, like motherboards and processors are 2475, 6300, 8400. I don't know what any of those means. I know motherboards though. Like ASUS is generally well viewed, GIGABYTE likes blue because a lot of motherboards I see from them are almost entirely blue (I like it. Looks pretty.), and MSI is something something military. If it matters I like motherboards that have the little flap over the processor. I don't know. I just think it looks nice, but I don't really need one. At least, I don't think I do.

I actually put this together, but a bit too much.  :P http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZyPTZL

TL ; DR:

-Need help and suggestions for making a computer.

-I'm not brand loyal and whatever has good reviews is good enough for me.

-Please explain how parts work and interact/fit with each other.

-Don't want super computer.

-I like MMORPG's and MOBA's.

-I have $400-$600 including OS.

Yeah, you can build a better value system. If you are doing Computer Science a linux distro shouldn't be to daunting (linux is free) knocking a bit off of your total.

Some games have been ported to linux however not a huge number so you may need windows for some of the games that you want to play.

an apu is terrible imo and why a 600w psu for it?

APU is fine for MOBAs. Double the wattage, means it runs within the claimed 50% load efficiency rating. Everybody knows that.

? the psu is like 85 percent and he said he likes battefiled too

Not after the future GPU upgrade. I made that mistake. Sucks when you can't get a better card in the future because you also have to swap your PSU. Always think ahead.

The A10 plays Battlefield.

(Like Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, Blacklight Retribution, and Battlefield.). Shooting games aren't really a, I don't really care for them much. Just something to just go in and play a quick round and then leave.

he can add an ssd later btw an i7 4770k and sli 780s only pulls 550w linus did a video on a rig like that or some other youtuber and btw i live near you lol

I stand by SSD first. You can always drop $60(the price of a game) on a 1TB later, when you need the storage. Plus, you won't need to migrate your OS or clean install.

Added: My PSU ended up working out great for this rig. I bought it when I briefly ran an 8350 and 780.

Cool, you're in TN?

@JustJoan,

You should check your to see if Windows is available on campus at a good discount - it generally is, check the bookstore. If not you can get it directly from Microsoft.

This build can be overclocked. There are some very good overclocks being reported using the stock cooler.

Will this work?

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/WZWWJx

I went with AMD build because I heard they were better at multitasking. I like to put itunes on in the background while playing games. Also, I looked at the parts and they're all available at the tigerdirect store I live near.

Hey I see intel pentium G3258 a lot. How does it compare with other processors?

For a general use and gaming system there is no difference between AMD and Intel when it comes to "multi-tasking".

The G3258 is a popular choice for low-end builds as it overclocks very well which elevates its performance significantly. Whether or not it is a good choice depends on budget and system usage.

i think i have an okey setup. :D correct me if im wrong. but this should preform atleast 40 fps in most games. and some of them at 60+ fps.

if you cant transfer your current harddrive over, windows doesnt cost much, and if you get a cheap windows 8, you can enjoy windows 8's speed and the 20 dollar upgrade to windows 9 soon will be totes worth it.

(plus... i allowed it to be somewhat upgradeable. idk if you can fit two gpu's in there, however the psu supports adding a MUCH better one.

Oh, I'm not really planning on overclocking. I'm still new so I don't want to do anything I don't know yet.
