Worst names in Tech Products

xbox. I mean, seriously?

wii u (confusing, lead a lot of people to think it was an add-on for the original wii)

ipad air, ipad retina, hell even ipad is arguably one of the worst names ever.

I see nothing wrong with xbox, it's just really straightforward (unless thats why you dislike it) considering it's (I think) short for directXbox, and it's a box with directx.

I could be wrong though, that's just what I was told about the name.

I hate when products have seemingly meaningless strings of numbers and letters as their name, but not strings of numbers in general.

For example, the Dell u2412m has a helpful name because after looking at a few Ultrasharp monitors you can see the pattern.

Ultrasharp 24inch 2012 (I don't know what the m is for, but I can deduce the meaning of the u2412 part)

Another example is the nVidia GPU name scheme. A three digit number, with the first being the generation of card, second being an indicator of the price and performance, third (only either 0 or 5 AFAIK) indicating a small performance bump.

An example of a bad name being my laptop, the ASUS Q550LF-BSI7t21. I can deduce that the 550 means it's a lower tier than maybe a 750, but the rest of that name is useless to me.

Maybe it does have a meaning but if that meaning isn't apparent to the consumer it's useless for the consumer to have to know it.

Laptops come in various configurations even if it is actually the same product series (eg: HDD size, memory capacity, CPU, antiglare screen and so on).

Stores usually put the code tag behind the product name mainly because they do sell many types of the same model and they need an unique ID to store them on the site.

That;s generally how it goes down, AMD is no stranger themselves. I'm confident the upcoming GTX 870 will basically be on par with the GTX 780.

I honestly don't see what's wrong with the naming for the iPhones.

1,2,3, 3GS(only off one), 4, 4S, 5, 5S, 5C ( for the color option)

There was never an iPhone 2 or 3.  There was the original, then the 3G (as in 3G network), then the 3Gs.

But the 870 will likely be based on completely new architecture.  Even if it is similar in performance, it won't be the same chip.

you kinda messed it up, an 870 would be around the same speed of a 780. An 880 will hopefully perform a lot better than a 770.

I'm that guy with the GPD Win.

I'd vote for OnePlus One.  When the rumours were flying around regarding a "OnePlus phone", I just assumed it was an iteration of the HTC One rather than a totally separate company.  Got on board as soon as I noticed my misinterpretation and have since managed to get one One (see what I did there?)
