[OCN]CaseLabs X2 mITX Case Prototype *Updated*

Accursed Entity

*Notice!* This case is in development(prototype), a lot can change. In fact, check source for all the conversations if you want to know a more in-depth information of its development.

This will be good! So small yet with good features, CaseLabs at it again. I'm not a big fan of the horizontal mobo tray(S3, S5, S8) so I'm going to follow this case development very close.

Source: CaseLabs announces the X2

We are pleased to officially announce our newest prototype case in the works, the X2. (Series name TBD)

The X2 was influenced from feedback received from several PDXALN events, OCN members and customers still wanting a high quality "water friendly" mITX case that can support full size hardware, but with a smaller footprint. There are MANY changes coming, but here are pictures of the general layout (beside a S3 for reference.)

Spec list as of Aug 12, 2014 (SUBJECT TO CHANGE)
* Heavy gauge all aluminum construction
* mITX form factor
* Reversible
* Full-size PSU support
* 2 PCI slots and full length video card support (2.5 slot cards okay)
* 240/280 radiator support in the roof with 55mm clearance (front rad support is TBD)
* 170mm cooling tower clearance
* Removable motherboard plate
* Flex-Bay system (number of bays TBD)
* Screwed together chassis
* Quick release exterior
* Extended tops and Pedestals will be available
* Drive support TBD
* Exterior dimensions TBD
* Price TBD

I think I'd still prefer the S5.

The size difference isn't enough to sway me to lose all of the expansion options.

Looks good but I do not really get this market: for high end cases sure Caselabs are awesome but their mitx cases are still what 200 or 300? And is not even like that small? A 350D would offer you a better price and bigger space.

I'm getting the hard-ons!!

My dream case is the Mercury S5, but the S3 is also delightful. Now the X2 just reinvents mini itx! This layout is extremely simple (basically what 99% of regular ATX towers are) and yet still I don't see mainstream cases with it.

The S3 starts at $200, an it looks like this one might be cheaper. if you can get this case starting at $150 they will pop out on build logs a LOT more often, that's usually $60+ extra on the price of cases like the 250D, which are part of the mainstream-enthusiast mini ITX.

They offer quality. Moreso than Corsair or Silverstone.

Sorry for the convoluted speech pattern.

Enough with these matx sized itx cases already.

But... but mooom!  :(  :o

Doesn't look that good. Doesn't compete with the Enthoo Evolv (Yes the Evolv is mATX and likely larger).

It doesn't have the faceplate and it's a prototype. But I love how the Evolv looks too(plus it's aluminum yummy), I'm buying a Phanteks case this year. I don't see myself spending $250+ on a mITX case.

I'd argue that for mITX builds this is not the most important quality vs space efficiency and size.

silverstone are much closer to CL than corsair, Things like the Temjin series pretty much destroy anything corsair has in terms of build quality seeing they are made out almost all aluminum.

as per usual, caselabs makes a case that could fit a atx board and components and brands it a mitx system. I guess it is for LCing and all but really?

looks like a nice case though.

Ok let's not exaggerate here, I value the opinions, but the height and depth of the case are around 14 inches(380mm). Maybe mATX but not of the size of an ATX. It's still a small case, like the Mercury S3 but with even smaller width.

Updated the OP, there's a lot going on at source, guys of Caselabs are responding a lot there. Just to clear things up, it is a prototype still, not the final product.

actually I am not exaggerating. I think that you could fit an atx system in there. bit of a tight fit maybe, but still I think it wouldnt be too difficult.
