Yeah 880 would be nice but nevermind that for a second: holy shit 650 wats tdp!? That means an 880 could potentially run completely silent if you turn back the details a notch or play something not very demanding, two of them in SLI could even run most games at 1080p passively cooled, that's fucking awesome.

No actually is the other way around: The current maxwell cards (750 and 750ti as well as the mobile 860-870-880m) indicate that they will actually be way more energy efficient than Kepler. This means that Gigabyte is using this likely massive cooler to achieve passive cooling even when gaming: for reference, there is a passively cooled 750ti already:

Awesome, something substantial for once. I'm interested to see Asus' offrering for the 880 when it comes around, seeing as they already offer 0 rpm cards when there's low load.

The second I heard the 880 wasn't going to be faster than the 780Ti I stopped giving a shit about Maxwell. Seriously, why is no one trying to push the envelope with GPU's? FFS we have 4k monitors and the top of the line stuff can't even handle 1400p. Plus we all know Nvidia is holding back an even more powerful chip which they throw in the 880 Ti, with a price reduction to the rest of the cards, screwing everyone who bought them before, only to release a new line a few months later, rebranding the entire line up except two GPU's. God damn it, I blame AMD for the underpowered 7970 allowing Nvidia to brand the 660 as the 680.

It doesn't have the performance justification over the 780 to make sense financially as getting a fully working GK110 is pretty hard to do given the manufacture fail rate. Yes, but keep in mind that the low performance of the 7970 caused Nvidia to put the GK104 in the 680 instead of the 660, which made them wait for the 780 to use the GK110 instead of putting it in the 680. Plus, everything in the 700 series below the 780 are just rebranded 600 series cards. 

 

Still, the rumors I have heard have stated that the 880 will be in between the 780 and 780ti, but at a much lower cost. Cause you know, thats so much easier than just lowering the freaking prices 700 series chips to compete with AMD. 

 

Seriously though, if Nvidia released a card like the 860 for around $250 that was faster than a 780ti AMD would be wrecked and the card would sell like hot cakes. Yes the profit margin would be smaller per card, but they would still make more money overall through massive sale numbers. That is assuming they could actually keep up with demand on the manufacturing side of things (looking at you One Plus One with your stupid invite system, why don't you just ramp up production already since clearly the demand is through the roof).
