Yeah, I know that. Don't have a cpu yet, so I put the ram stick in the first slot just to figure out
RAM and cpu cooler(Deepcool Redhat) compatibility, and put the motherboard back on the shelf

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.

Nice, something that’s always a good investment, even if it’s overkill from the start, if you intend on upgrading a system repeatedly through a long period of time then a really nice psu goes a long way.

I have a friend who’s still using a first gen Corsair HX series 850w unit from a decade ago with zero issues even with an rtx 2080 now

Going out on a larger, quality PSU is always the best and to "futureproof" yourself (as much as I hate the term).

Found a used Paul Reed Smith MT 15 amplifier. Been looking to buy one for quite a while now, so getting one for 35% cheaper than new was some good fortune. Even though it's just 15 Watts, it's damn loud even on the reduced 7 Watt mode on my 4x12 cabinet and it sounds great. Really nice crunchy distortion, but I guess that's to be expected from a full 6 preamp gain stages and two power amp tubes. But still, I found it rare to get an amp where you can just plug in your guitar and have it sound great without any additional pedals to tweak the sound somewhat. The only other one I've managed to find, at least on the distortion channel, is the Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier below it, which at 100W is even more overkill for a home setup.

Also, apparently, even modern guitar amps can't avoid RGB, or in this case at least red and blue for either of the two channels, because the glow from the tubes themselves clearly wasn't enough.

I don't have pictures yet, but I purchased a couple broken Apple iMacs yesterday. One is a Late 2009 27" iMac and the other is a Mid 2010 27" iMac. They've both got Core i5 CPUs, and the 2010 has 8GB of RAM. I purchased them for use as monitors, and eventually they'll be used at least temporarily in a 7680x1440 surround setup with my PC.

Both of the iMacs were listed as having dead GPUs, which is a known issue in most 2009-2011 iMacs. However, the 2010 seems to be perfectly fine - I ran it for a couple hours this morning without issue. The 2009 definitely has issues though, but I'll be able to sort it out.

Just waiting on some more DisplayPort cables and I'll be all set to have two iMacs on my desk until I fix the third.

Phobos: AMD Ryzen 7 2700, 16GB 3000MHz DDR4, ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 8GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070, 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT 1030, 1TB Samsung SSD 980, 450W Corsair CXM, Corsair Carbide 175R, Windows 10 Pro

Polaris: Intel Xeon E5-2697 v2, 32GB 1600MHz DDR3, ASRock X79 Extreme6, 12GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, 6GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, 1TB Crucial MX500, 750W Corsair RM750, Antec SX635, Windows 10 Pro

Pluto: Intel Core i7-2600, 32GB 1600MHz DDR3, ASUS P8Z68-V, 4GB XFX AMD Radeon RX 570, 8GB ASUS AMD Radeon RX 570, 1TB Samsung 860 EVO, 3TB Seagate BarraCuda, 750W EVGA BQ, Fractal Design Focus G, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

York (NAS): Intel Core i5-2400, 16GB 1600MHz DDR3, HP Compaq OEM, 240GB Kingston V300 (boot), 3x2TB Seagate BarraCuda, 320W HP PSU, HP Compaq 6200 Pro, TrueNAS CORE (12.0)

Did iMacs ever have 8000 series GPUs? I know that Mac Pros shipped stock with 8800s for a while.

I think one of the 2008 models had the 8800 GS as an option.

The iMacs I'm working with have Radeon GPUs, specifically the 4850, 5750, and 6970M. These are all known to be notoriously unreliable, especially the 6970M.

Ah. I've had problems with R770 based GPUs (4000 series) in non-Macs. A good bake usually fixes them but it may be different for an entire motherboard (unless the GPU is MXM, that'd be ideal...)

These GPUs are MXM. A reflow can get some more time out of them (the 6970M in my 2011 iMac was reflowed in August 2020, and it's been running nearly 24/7 since then), but it's not a guarantee, and most people choose to take the time to upgrade the iMacs. I just need a functional GPU of any kind, as I'll be completely ignoring the computer part of the iMac when I use the 2009 and 2010 iMacs as displays.

Ended up buying a PowerDrive 2 and 1ft PowerLine II. Our last power outage made me realize I should prooooobably have some method of charging my phone in my car. That and I'm sure if I ever had a passenger with a phone that needed some love, they might like it as well. I will say, I'm surprised at just how obnoxiously fucking tight the ports are on the PowerDrive. I can see that being a pain point for passengers if they're not part of the Tim Apple master race.
