20x improvement on new xeon chips?

So Intel quietly announced a technology that will allow for a 20x improvement in some areas. it uses something called an FGPA chip which is essentially a chip that can be completely changed to perform certain tasks very effectively and then quickly changed to do something else. I assume that it would be an "up to" sort of deal but I guess we will have to wait and see. I think a big question right now would be why announce it so quietly if it is such a big improvement.

Maybe they will start using graphene? I heard it's super duper awesome :D

Support for running code on FPGAs is one thing that AMD's HSA was actually designed for. They're currently doing it with the iGPUs on APUs, but the intent is to run code on many different types of hardware, including DSPs and FPGAs. Glad to see Intel is going down a similar path. I just hope they'll also do it with HSA, instead of doing their own thing.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.
