Solar Roads

Oops, didn't see the original. I didn't think to look in Tech News and Reviews because this clearly doesn't belong there as it's neither news nor a review.

the new tech is news and  the vid you posted is a review of the idea kinda :P

They're not rolling the product out to the public first.

Read their goals, they're main priority ATM is getting the technology to private consumers and businesses to replace parking lots or driveways.

It'll probably stay that way for 5 years or so as the tech evolves and matures. And then move to the public sector

I also read that the panels need to be attached to the power grid to begin with. So the issue of a panel not getting sun is a moot point. The solar power would go back into "the grid" and count as a credit on your electricity bill.

The issue isn't rolling it out to the public, the issue is that the whole idea is infeasible given current (and likely future) build materials as well as other things like the impracticality of transporting the energy.

solar panels on all the roofs of every house and building and elevated solar panels over all the parking lots and drive ways would be a much better way to go. Parking spaces spend most of the day shaded, large highways that are in the open get a lot of traffic much of the day and end up getting shaded by the cars, and then your 2 lane back roads at least around here are surround by trees and get shaded most of the day.
