what lower budget alternative can i get to the rx 6600?

i am making a list for upcoming pc but not really for gpu focused games, so im thinking of skimping out on the rx 6600 and going for something a bit less high end and more affordable. 6600 is like £210 so what sort of card could i g get that is compatible with my list for about £170?

this is the list i have so far, https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/ZzQPTY any recomendations on it would be nice. i copied it from a video i have seen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IF4cnZzBvd8 but changed the case. thanks for help

If you're buying new, it's hard to recommend a card worse than the 6600 since they tend to get a lot worse for not that much money saved. If you want to go used, then you can get some decent options. The one I'd probably go for is a GTX 1080 Ti, since you can find it for that £170 without much issue, and it's a bit faster than the RX 6600 as well.

You could get a used a750 for 170 USD, which should be less in Euros. However, I don't recommend it, since the drivers are bad. Im saying this from personal experience. The gtx 1080ti would also be a really good choice if you are fine buying used.

Eat one pizza or drink a beer less and buy a £200 rx6600 😛

Anything priced 30 bucks less is like 30% less perf so bad buy

I will say that these cards are starting to die I had two go Code 43 on me in '22 and I've seen other people around the forum say similar things.
That being said, they are amazing cards for the 100-150$ they are selling for and my buddy and his wife have been rocking some 980Tis in their rigs for 4 years now.

Good

However what do you want to do on this machine ? 6600 is the bare minimum for decent 1080p gaming (new AAA games at least), but for anything else the 12100 is pretty limited (4C/8T)

And really your budget is short £100 for a decent rig imo : it will cost you £100 upfront sure but swapping the CPU for a 5700X will make it last at least 2 years more, and will be worth more on resale, for overall less money

mostly easier to run games like minecraft or roblox, maybe splitgate idk, recording and streaming would be nice too. idk what the fanciest triple a games are but i think that the build would be able to play what i want. ik spending a bit more at tthis budget goes a long way but that could be a future upgrade for me i think

One option to consider is the 12400F, you can get them new for 115 in the UK. I know the ladder has to stop somewhere so I understand, but the 12400F is definitely nicer to have and most hardware reviewers (like HUB) strongly recommended the upgrade for anyone who could afford it, even though they really liked the value the 12100F offers.

I know the i3 is tempting, but with the game performance that you are going to get at an RX 6600 level, you can get close with a 4c8t i7 for cheap. Well... at least in the usa, l don't know how the used pc market is in your part of the world, so it depend.

But hey! If you could spring for an i5 13400f or something close, go with that.

Sure you can get a 4770K and  platform - board and RAM- for 100 bucks, that's for how much I've sold mine a few months ago, single core perf is way lower tho

But neat idea 😛

Sorry, I put a k by accident because I was thinking about the 12600kf and changed my statement.

4c 8t is 4 cores and 8 threads. This type of abbreviation is common because we like shorten things sometimes, like PSU and GPU.

I ran a Xeon E3-1231v3 (basically an i7-4790 minus 200 MHz and with ECC memory support) until a couple of years ago and it started bottlenecking even my old GTX 1660 Super pretty significantly in games like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk, even with DDR3-2400. Think it would really hold an RX 6600 back, though AMD drivers have lower DX12 overhead than Nvidia's so are better with lower end cpus.

Agreed, but it's yet good performance for the lowish price, considering those chips are from GTX700/900 era...

My 2013 build was 4770k/GTX770 🙂, upgraded to a 2060S in 2019 and realized I had to upgrade the CPU Haswell 😛 !

IDK, I was getting actual slowdown in Elden Ring at launch. Don't think I could recommend chips that old at all.

That's typically the kind of games that won't run well on it, but it's $100 for the platform, anything new is $250+, I just say you can't get much better for the price unless you find a real good deal on a 2600X platform or such
