Help me Choose - 7800 XT or 7900 GRE

I know reading the title you're thinking this is quite simple, and it probably is, but something in me leans towards the weaker card.

Basically I'm building a PC with my taxes, switching from Console finally. I'm looking to spend ~$1300 and currently have a PCPP list built (with input from here), 7500F, 32GB, etc. However, I keep going back and forth on the GPU.

One choice is the PowerColor Hellhound Spectral White 7800 XT @ $579.99

The second being the ASRock Steel Legend 7900 GRE @ $579.99.

These are my only two choices, I cannot be persuaded. The fit my build aestics the best, and still provide more than enough performance for the games I play (Apex, Minecraft, no MMOs or RPGs really) at 1080P (and higher, but I only have a 1080P monitor currently).

Am I crazy for leaning towards the 7800 XT? I see PowerColor as a more known AMD GPU manufacturer, and the only other thing would be the white PCB. At the same price though... it makes the cheap man in me cringe at the thought of a worse performance value.

Please persuade me one way or the other.

Yeah, though I don't really like Asrock as a "cheap-facturer" in most cases, the 7900 GRE is a tad faster than any 7800 XT. Up to 10%.

I edit my posts more often than not

Honestly, if getting the 7900GRE, you will notice a performance improvement, however if you decide on the 7800xt, it wont be a big enough improvement that it will be missed. In saying that Asrock are a very good company much like powercolor, not as popular or as good quality but 95% there. Honestly if aesthetics are the same id say more performance, i reckon build quality will be very similar, however if you prefer the aesthetics of one, then go for that.

Me personally, i prefer both the aesthetics of the 7900GRE and the performance bonus (also the names cool but thats only slightly redundant 😋)

That's basically what I found. I have a 165hz Monitor, and will get a 240hz eventually, but still only at 1080P, so that's the only thing that kind of evens the field for me.

I'm going with the B650 Pro RS from ASRock for my Mobo, so I guess I'm not too concerned about quality. I'm glad to hear that they're very close.

The only aesthetic bonus points for the PC card are the white PCB. The ASRock card has better RGB (IMO).

This is difficult 😅

if value is all you cared about get a 6800xt for 350$ ish used or whatever they go for (usually close to 3080 pricing)

id just go for the 7900 gre if you wabt new cause you atleast get a little performance bump going new instead of having the same ish performance with minor power savings

Yeah. 7900 gre. Also, maybe later get a 1440p monitor. There is no point in buying such a good GPU if you are only playing at 1080p.

Even when I upgrade the monitor I only plan on 1080P, what other GPU would you recommend for maximum 1080P?

What refresh rate are you aiming for 165 or 240?

7700xt might be a good option

I would get the one that matches a 4070 Ti Super at 4K with a memory overclock (08:45)

I ended up going with the ASRock Steel Legend RX 7800 XT, thanks everyone! It should be here Monday, along with a few other components. Whenever I receive the CPU (R5 7500F) I'll be posting a build!

As an aside, do a tax calculator.  Getting a refund isn't  proper money management.

7800xt is more than enough.  You can spend yourself into the grave by choosing that little bit more for a bit more.

Would you mind posting the finished build here afterwards?

Either here or in the "show off your setup" thread, always excited to see builds come together!

Yeah of course! I'm excited to share it, and I'm sure I'll have more questions. I'm going to grab some white cable sleeves and it should look as good as it performs!
