What does it matter whether it is or not? I've been on it for 8 months and don't notice difference. So isn't it a good thing it's reskin and not something wonky like what 8 tried?

It's still a reskin of Vista if you want to be exact. Same as 7, 8, 8.1 and 10.

Basically anecdotal: I've recently upgraded on two machines so far, and both seem at least as responsive as they were on Windows 10. Programs and settings are in different places and the menus are different, but Control Panel is still a thing if you really want that era of system properties interface. The UI animations are smoother and better catered to higher-refresh displays than Windows 10 is, so that's a plus if you're running a monitor over 60hz.

 

I haven't tested much software on the upgraded machines, and no games. At some point I will need to move my gaming machine to Windows 11, but there are some games from the Windows 7 time and even earlier that I have some slight trepidation. DirectX 12 is fully supported in Windows 10, so until the security updates stop I guess I could wait.

Basically a reskin with the usual where is my this setting now things you get when moving to a new os.

 

Its fine really.

 

You'll have to get it eventually too so ehh FRESH INSTALL when you feel like it.

 

Dont upgrade it does NOT work well dunno what they messed up but the 11 upgrade fails a lot

Windows 11 is just more bloated windows 10, it's a good idea to make a custom iso if you are going to install it

I might be experienced, but I'm human and I do make mistakes. Expand for common PC building advice, a short bio and a list of my components and other tech. I edit my messages after sending them alot, please refresh before posting your reply. Please try to be clear and specific, you'll get a better answer. Please remember to mark solutions once you have the information you need.

 

Common build advice: 1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticably improve performance past 240mm.

I've directly upgraded all three of our home PCs from Win10 to Win11 without any problem at all.  Eight months of use as of now.

Thats fair sometimes it does. I am the unlucky fellow that has to deal with 1000+ win 10 devices that have local admin and I think it's like a 40% success ratio. So yeah not good at all.
