Used 3080's scams?

I've been looking at the used gpu market, and I found that on ebay you can get a used 3080, which is usually ~$1200 new, is only ~$450-$550. Why is this? the deal seems too good to be true!

That's because it's not a good deal. 

$450 is the most you should probably pay for used 3080.

 

They were never supposed to be $1200...

They're used GPUs released 4 years ago. Pretty normal depreciation.

doesnt help that the 4070 has similar performance, draws alot less power, and has 2gb extra vram at ~500$ so a used 3080 would only be a decent deal around 350$

 

also ebay pricing is pretty meh so look on classifieds sites like fb marketplace

its a bit like how I bought a $4000 K6000 for $59 or a $3499 v9800 for like $35
old card get old and goes cheap

normally, ebay is close to a linear scale of price per performance (until cards fall out of support)
AI kinda scuffs this because 12+gb cards go for a wee bit more than they should
