Suggestion for a tiny sub-$100USD crapbook with an SD card slot

I'm looking for a 11"-12" laptop meeting these requirements.

  • At least 64GB of storage
  • At least 4GB of RAM
  • A usable CPU for web browsing
  • Must have an SD card slot
  • Like a 5 or 6 hour battery life at least
  • Will run Ubuntu

Been looking around at crappy netbooks and Chromebooks on Ebay. They either have too little storage, no SD card slot, or are more money than I want to throw at a turd. I only expect to get a few years out of whatever I go with.

Here's an ebay filter link for HP Elitebooks, I use one for work I picked up for $90 that has a 6th gen i5, 4GB Ram, and 256GB M.2 SSD. In my experience they're a super solid buy for a cheap laptop to use for basic stuff or in my case setting up networking equipment on-site. It's filtered by screen size and ram right now but there are plenty of filters you can adjust yourself. I like to recommend these because you can get 4th Gen i3 to i5s or even newer(a lot of 6th Gens) for close to or under $100 in most cases. I would stick to 4th Gen or newer on them though, some of the results for the 12" screen size are a little dated. I'd rather get one of these than some dinky little Celeron or pentium laptop.

I've got a Latitude E4200 on sale right now, 11.6",  128GB SSD, 5GB, 1.6ghz C2D if that's what you are looking for.

Could also get you a Latitude 3150 - 128GB SSD, 12", dual core Celeron, 8GB for same price as the E4200. Sameish processor power but a little longer battery life and less solid build.

Otherwise, an older Chromebook for eBay would work.

Just be advised: that thing is e-waste and you'll hate yourself for buying it. A used Chromebook would be a much better idea.

Oh wow I think I played with one of these at Microcenter a long while ago. Such a cute dinky little thing, I really wanted it at the time. I kinda of still want it. But it's probably not a great way to spend $80.

X220 or x230 or their T variants, price may be a bit of a challenge but some around the $100 mark exist, you can snag them for less if you wait and auction hunt

https://www.ebay.com/itm/335205746601

touchpad doesn’t work, though if I had to guess the touchpad is probably disabled in the bios considering the buttons do work

these all have sd card readers built in, expresscard for expansion, and x230 models have a usb 3.0 port

Msata ssd + 2.5” sata possible, thinkpad stuff, I presume most people know about these sandy bridge and ivy bridge thinkpads but if you don’t then google it, they’re bombproof and aftermarket batteries are dirt cheap
