I Still Miss EVGA - Building the All EVGA PC

Plouffe

When EVGA pulled out of the GPU market in September 2022, it left a triple slot size hole in our PCs. Luckily, they have a TON of other products we can fill it with!

Check out some EVGA products

I would've waited to get their RTX 4090 FTW model that we've seen the engineering samples of. Would've been the best AIB model with its design in my opinion, especially with where the 12VHPWR connector is placed.

The ES is the only version that will ever exist. They sent out what they had to a few people a while back after they dropped Nvidia and that's it, no more sadly.

Gonna have to be "that guy" for a minute - video contains incorrect information.

At around 8:30, Linus says that the Z790 motherboard can be compatible out of the box with 14th gen. That's technically true, because they could be compatible, but EVGA hasn't released a BIOS in almost a year (and will almost certainly never release another one) and none of their motherboards (Z690 or Z790) fully support 14th gen.

Loved the EVGA video!

Let me know if you want to play around with a 275 Co-Op sometime.  I have one in my collection (and a 275 that can work with it in SLI if you want to spend time messing with drivers to use SLI + PhysX).  I also have one of the GeForce4 Ti 4600 with the ACS2 coolers.  Along with about 70 other EVGA GPUs...

I have one of the Interview dual 17" in too.  It was fun to play with, but, ya, bad video quality by today's standards.  They seemed to be coming out with some business related products at the time and some were pretty interesting.  They had a line of PCOIP products (kind of like a remote KVM) that were pretty neat.  They had host cards that would slot into a PCIe slot and you would run the GPU output to it (for display), USB devices, sound and even configure for WOL or wire in they physical power switch for remote power control.  On the other end they had "thin client" receiver boxes that could plug into a monitor (or even the 17" Interview).  They were powered by Teradici, which was eventually bought out by HP.

I recently completed a similar EVGA tribute build in a DG-85.  Fun build, but, that case is HUGE.  I even dropped in similar random accessories like EVGA DDR4, a PCOIP host cord (for fun, removed it later), an EVGA Killer NIC (remember those?)  And of course an EVGA motherboard (x299 Dark) and 3090 Ti Kingpin.  Check it out: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4vCQqR

Their legacy certainly won't be forgotten.

This video contains at least one faulty assumption.

EVGA"s z390 dark was not the first to allow cpu-less bios flashing.

I did that on an Asus sabertooth 990fx well before Intel Skylake launched, let alone Intel's 8th/9th gen that the z390 was built for.

I bought a Hydro Copper 3080ti literally days before they announced that they were leaving the GPU scene.

I probably have one of the last Hydro Copper cards they ever made.  Its amazing, and i cant find any first party watercooling ready cards on the nVidia side anywhere anymore.  There used to be Waterforce cards, but i dont even see those.

I will miss EVGA terribly.

BTW if anyone would want a used 3080ti Hydro Copper when the 5000 series comes out (if ever) the RGB has failed (a common issue from my research, but an aesthetic one that can be fixed), but otherwise its a tank.

I wouldn't. Their BIOS team seems to be MIA. Still no 14th gen support. Which yeah say what you want about it as a gen, the rest of the manufacturers had BIOS updates ready to go. I think EVGA is done supporting these motherboards which is a shame since they are the current products.

I had an EVGA 9800GX2, it was a cool card however I didn't realise when I got it that the main games I played didn't support SLi so it was half useless to me xD

Ended up trading it for a GTX260 in the end so all good.

I'm surprised that dispute two users in this thread (myself included) pointing out factual errors... No corrections have been made, or updates published.

I hate how everyone forget their Pascal GPU firehazard. That was awful and EVGA still deserves hate for that. Basically their 10 series GPUs had bad components like capacitors and they would literally explode (even more frequently than AM5 CPUs). There are countless reports of this issue. Want to know EVGA's solution? They sent people 10 cents worth of thermal pads.. Only when that didn't work and thousands more EXPLODED they recalled them.

We'll be removing these statements from the video. Thanks.

Re: SR-2 in modern cases:

Some cases can be convinced to house the board with manual modifications and some part repositioning.

Back around 2 years ago I modded an Azza Cast 808 case (ATX) to fit my SR-2. This included replacing some of the frame plates with custom laser-cut mounting plates and using SFX instead of ATX for the PSU(s). Also added externally mounted liquid cooling for good measure...

The assembly process is an absolute pain, but manageable overall.

SR-2 in <50L volume.

I dont know if linus would be interested in using the Super Rare EKWB kit (pic 1) for the EVGA sr-2 MOBO (you can see the EK logo in the black plastic)(bitzpower fittings were just to keep contaminants out). i built and have this build as a closet build(pic 2). yes i know it looks cluttered but there is tubes going to each VRM and Each cpu and the Chipset (pic 3). Ran it to run modded skyrim back in the day but has been dormant for 6 years.
