Your thoughts on the morbidly obese on scooters

Let me just start off by saying I blame /b/ for stumbling across another "Amerifat" thread. This is off-topic so why not?

 

I'm not skinny, in fact, I'm kinda on the pudgy side. But hey, that's what happens when you stop working out and continue eating the good things in life. My weight doesn't really bother me as I'm also 6'2" so I look a lot less than my actual weight. That said, I find seeing these things at Walmart ect pretty disgusting.

 

I mean, if you are injured on crutches or lost your legs, by all means please use them! That's what they are for. But if you're a land whale and you're scooting around like a double wide trailer scoring some oreos and frozen pizza...that is when the landscape turns gross. If it wasn't for war vets ect, I would actually support banning these types of scooters as they only encourage fat assery. Not the kind where it's "Okay, you ate a couple of extra cheeseburgers" The kind of fat where you lose your son or daughter and this person looks like they ate them. That level of weight no human being should ever be at. (And this is from someone who is into the more curvy of women with a girlfriend that has some crazy hips)

 

An older episode of South Park sums my feelings on this as in one ep, Cartman gets fatter than normal just for a scooter with Kyle being disgusted at the idea. That same ep also mocks Honey Boo Boo and Americans being so dumbed down that the bar of standards is so far low.

There are people with conditions that can't help it. The women I love more than anything has a slow metabolism and that isn't her fault. But she can walk under her own power and doesn't require 2 seats. The thing is, though. People who are crazy overweight for health reasons, yeah, they don't scoot around walmart stuffing their basket full of pure junk loaded with calories. They actually care about their weight being that high. There is no excuse to be 400+ pounds on a scooter like that. It makes you look like an asshat compared to people with real disabilities. I've lost a lot in my life and been through depressing episodes, even gained a lot from a bad diet and one point (which I lost), but jesus, man. I was never that huge to need a set of wheels just to browse the isle of a store.

 

This isn't a hate on fat people thread, this is a distaste for people like this:

On topic: well , they should be allowed to have scooters , since their weight (referring to morbidly obese) their legs might not be able to handle the weight & can easily cause  joint discomfort and in rare cases dislocassion, and sitting down will help them ,

 

but who wants to hear that, people genereally dislike others for their own reasons, bottom line is that regardless of what they look like , they have their own thing i guess. we know it may be(is) harmful for being obese and all & it's a serious issue,but if we start to point out fingers  , everyone's responsible in a way. you need mad shifting perspective to see it.when you do , you know there's no answer,it's just arrogant people on both sides.

Isn't it better fro overweight people to have a way to actually get outside and meet other people? If your bones can no longer support you weight, you still have the possibility of going outside with the help of an electric scooter (or simialr device).

Sure they are overweight and that is an issue, especially when your own body can't support the weight. But isn't that a problem in it self? The small electric scooter just offer a way for these people to get out and socialize.

Now if they are being rude toward people, they deserve to told so, but they deserve this regradless of their weight.

It's my dream to one day get really really fat, set up cameras in a store, go in on one of these things and deliberately fall off so that I can film everyone struggling to get me up again. It's the little things in life.

If someone can't walk, this is what the things are for. Perfectly understandable, but when the habits are supporting the scooter and the scooter is being used to keep this person at this weight level..we have a problem.

This I can see as a problem. Keeping a unhealthy eating habit, while lowering you physical activity. This can be a negative spiral.

But I would the pose the question: What can be done to help this? Should the government step in (outlawing, prohibiting etc)? I don't even think the Nothern-European socialist in me want this. People should have their free choice in the matter,

Maybe we should just try to make a sociaty wide change in the mentality surrounding this? Maybe we just need to educated the people, on what it is that they are eating, and that they are not disabled, just becuase they are overweight.

Unfortunatly I don't think this can happen.

I have the same stance. I don't want outright bans on this or government intervention. It's one of those things that are part of you wants to do something about it while the other half is conflicted. s: I would be way too self conscious to even sit on the things, even with my current weight not being obese levels. It's that stigma. Some people just lack self respect I suppose.
