Hi

Please add a forum for disability or accessibility issues relating to tech (software, hardware, furniture, peripherals, etc)

as much as i respect the hardships, i do fear it might turn into a combination of small problems:

- a very small subset of people interested, because most of these solutions apply to a very small portion of even the segment of the userbase that has some form of disability. (which technically includes me.)

- most questions would also fit just fine in their respective subforums (for example, a question for a mouse solution for someone with a certain disability would fit in the peripherals section too)

- a very small market of products to discuss. again.. this very much isnt a good thing, but it's just what it is.

to a degree i also feel like "locking the disability questions into it's own corner of the forum" does more bad than good for inclusion(?) and i really hope that inclusion should be the primary goal for everyone involved.

Our policy on adding subforums has been that there needs to be enough content around other subforums to justify adding subforum. Just adding subforum doesn't bring content to it, there needs to be content first. Last couple subforum suggestions have included:

  • Cybersecurity
  • Enterprise gear
  • Steamdeck
  • VR
  • Overclocking
  • Apple
  • Off Topic subforums
  • Fan fiction
  • Machine Learning, AI etc.
  • Retro/Vintage

Just to name a few. Of those, some have as little content as accessibility as subject has had (1-2 a month). While others would have daily to weekly content.

You can post questions etc. to suitable subforums already. Like gear to Peripherals, software to Programs, Apps and Websites, gaming to suitable gaming section, and other to General. From what I've seen, most get anything from couple to decent amount of posts. With some (mainly when it comes to LMG content), get couple of pages going.

As visually impaired myself (though just), I would get most of my discussion on the subjects from peer Facebook groups or mailing lists for national support organizations.

Either would be fine depending on the method of cyber security being used.

Depending on subject, it could also go under General or Tech News. Most threads I've seen are about vulnerabilities or hacks.

This subforum could also be used as for example screen readers or zoontext.

I like computers. And watching them blow up while playing GTA 5. Remember to update to Windows 11! 😁

Those fit fine in software and in past I can recall seeing such less than once a month.
