New google gmail interface being tested

wilbso

http://www.theverge.com/2014/5/10/5704452/screenshots-suggest-google-is-testing-a-completely-redesigned-gmail

Apparently, a select few are testing a new version of gmail that looks completely different to the current version.

We don't even know if google will be rolling this out yet, but it sounds cool. Just not really sure if the design is practical or not.

What do you think?

Everytime Google changes a layout it makes it worse. Haven't they learned anything from Youtube?

Aw why does it need to be changed :( That screenshot looks like a mobile version stretched out with all the buttons you've been used to for 10 years suddenly thrown across the opposite side of the screen. It seems easy to get used to I guess. I just wonder what the point is.

I will reserve my final opinion until I actually try it out, but at first glance I think they've went for a overly minimalistic look. It might turn out to be awesome though :)

I think it looks pretty cool as long as they will be able to fill the spaces on the sides with other content. I really do hope they work on the UI of every thing they own including YouTube especially.

I like having one-click access to everything I need instead of drawers and dropdown menus for the sake of being minimalist and flooding the page with white space. With each UI update (especially with youtube), more things get hidden away and they're more of a hassle to get to.

("Hassle" as in 2 or 3 more clicks or sometimes having to go to a new page for more options, etc. It might not be much to complain about but it is still annoying)

If there's one thing Goolge loves to do, it's to waste space on their websites. Look at all the unused space... This makes me want to vomit.

It looks beautiful... but I can already see, its going to be a b**ch to navigate, They are trying to put a mobile design on a desktop.  I thought companies learnt from Microsoft?  Obviously not.

As an early adopter for most of their layout changes, where do I sign up?

Worst offender is Google Play web page. Not only it's horrendous looking it also lacks in functionality.

You are the minority. A very small minority.

Also why are you looking for an objective truth? What objective truth? This is about liking an interface or not which is subjective. Most people don't like Google's stupid redesigns.

If there is one way to objectively assess this situation that would be by comparing the functionality of the site now and redesigned version. In that regard with every redesign, Google takes away a lot of the functionality for no reason whatsoever so I'm not expecting anything different with this.

I tried it but yea, its the worse e-mail client interface, well maybe tied with a few others, luckily you can read gmail with other e-mail clients to do away with the advert/bloat.

I want to read MY e-mail not their adverts and BS.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.
