If it ain't broken don't fix it unless its utter shit. Gmail is not utter shit so just leave it be. Add new features sure but don't mess around with functional UI.

In seriousness, it doesn't look too bad, looks like there's a sidebar on the left that can be hidden, does look a bit like something that should be on mobile tho

Gmail online interface has never been my favorite. I actually just use my android phone with it's built in gmail client, I don't send emails though. This new one doesn't seem to even make sense to me, it looks like it's designed for a touch screen interface. When using an actual computer with a mouse why leave so much room empty? I want as much information as you can fill on the screen so I don't have to spend time scrolling around. It doesn't look like it will scale well either, on a 1440p or higher screen it will look about like facebook does now. Obviously that is just from one screenshot so who knows what it will really look like. Maybe it will be multi paned or something.

It looks nice for basic consumers, and those who don't take advantage of many of the features available to them with gmail.

 

I think this may hurt SME who rely on Google business apps.

 

It also looks highly touch optimised. Excellent for windows 8 users.
