Mouse is slow? (Overwatch)

Mark Kaine

So i have a logitech B170, 1000dpi (apparently) and i really like it, even though its a budget offering.  But i noticed in OW2 its *really slow*... like 10 times slower than a xbox controller ... Is there a setting i could change ingame or in windows that makes it faster, or is 1000dpi just this *slow* ?

1000dpi is not slow. I personally use between 700-800 dpi on my mice. Sounds like in-game mouse sensitivity is really low.

yeah that's what i thought ... its like at 1% or something but idk what that means or why it would be that way, so i thought i ask if 1000dpi is slow, i mean its not slow on my desktop... ill see if i can fix it ingame,  thanks.

You need to change mouse sensitivity in game settings. Probably somewhere in controls settings.

ok, i just tried it, mouse sensitivity to 100 is way too much but 60 is kinda ok, still fast... but its *very* jittery and stuttery... funny thing i noticed that in some replays,  some players have this... while others have totally smooth mouse movements... i thought its gotta be a mouse sensitivity thing, any idea which setting that could be, or is 1000dpi after all not so great... easily the worst part of OW are the settings,  very convoluted,  but yeah, what could that issue be caused by now ?

Bonus question without making a new thread: how do i do an instant 180 or a 360, looked it up on Google but didn't get any info, other than yes, you should do this a lot in shooters (for obvious reasons)?

Ty giving this a go. As for the 360 stuff no clue, never got that hard-core into fps games. https://eliteownage.com/mouseguide.html

Actually i meant more 180, its weird no guides seem to mention it, but i found some forum post that said you just have to have it set "fast enough" , just difficult to understand how some people do *exact* 180s then, maybe just practice,  for the record when i tried this my character didn't turn *at all* so not sure what im missing here lol.

Also apparently you're supposed to turn off mouse acceleration,  maybe that does the trick and also fixes the jittery, erm look... (feel)

Its funny ive seen "Grandmasters" playing like this, which i would call absolutely unplayable (stuttery as heck)

Well, I'll try this out and report back... im just really extremely uncomfortable using a keyboard for movements... i mean you're supposed to press (wasd) Q T shift control and space at the same time in some cases lol, its just so impractical haha...

Maybe i try a controller with paddles (extra buttons) which should fix most of my issues with the gameplay as well (except the quick turn thing which is really stupid there isnt a dedicated button for that)

1000DPI is fine.

Make also sure you disable Enhance Mouse pointer precision in Windows... Located in Control Panel in mouse settings.

Instant 180 or 360 can be done by flicking your mouse, depending on your sensitivity it may or may not be possible. It certainly is easier with higher sensitivity but at the cost of accuracy during small fine movements, you really need to find a balance that's up to your preference. Usually 180 is more than enough.

yeah, i see seems to be windows settigns mostly then, i noticed that before that games that are really smooth with controller suddenly become stuttery when i use the mouse... 👀

What do you mean by flick? just move the mouse quickly left or right i guess?

So i found out due to some "top 500 player" videos you're supposed to set ingame mouse sensitivity to between 3.0 and 6.0...  Weird, because when i tried it i thought 40.0 was barely fast enough lol...

Anyway i haven't tried with mouse acceleration off yet, which I'll do now, i just thought that's an interesting tidbit about the sensitivity setting, will let you know how it goes without windows mouse acceleration  - i still couldn't do any 180s btw... the mouse is just soooo *slow* lol...

Also fun fact my aim % is exactly the same as with controller (around 30% which is ridiculously  bad i think, although not sure, maybe its just average since im winning half of the time lol)

BUT that's also me not being used to WASD movement at all... i think aiming actually does feel smoother with mouse... it also didn't feel jittery this time, probably my sensitivity was actually way too high last time i tried...

Anyway,,just a small update,,will report back how it goes without windows mouse acceleration (cannot imagine it to make a diff, but i might be wrong,  no idea)

PS: now my keyboard felt also slow, like there's a bit of delay... which is weird cause its a cheap dell, but its wired, there shouldn't be a delay?

ps: also lotsa people play with 6000dpi (iirc) so maybe that's why 1000 feels slow (it really does lol)

EDIT: actually hard to tell a difference between mouse acceleration on/off... it did feel kinda better with it on tbh, but I'll keep trying with it off for now, because i also can't really tell a difference as said lol

Actually, the faster i "flick" the less likely it is to work lol...

I just figured out i need to move to mouse very slowly then it actually does an (almost precise) 180...

6000dpi here i come i guess xD

(but could really just be practice)

A lot of the top level players use 5k-10k edpi, which is your mouse dpi * in game sensitivity. I personally use 800 dpi on my mouse, with 8% in game sens for 6400 edpi.

This can also be adjusted per hero, and standard vs scoped aiming. A lot of players figure out how much room they have left to right for full arm / wrist movement, whichever they want to use, and then adjust settings to make that a full 360 in game, so you're not needing to lift your mouse mid spin to find an enemy.
