windows xp better than windows 10

No.

- Windows XP is too old for the modern web

- Windows XP has quite a few known security flaws

- Windows XP can't run any modern software, e.g. games, content creation programs, etc.

- Windows XP's 64-bit option is utter trash at handling drivers

battery usage, them being lightweight, harddrives making people think the hardware is slow. also chassis degrade with use.

Replaceable batteries, this x220 is only a pound heavier than the current gen X13, this has 2 SSD's in it and even came with a factory option for an MSATA ssd, and the chassis is made of magnesium alloy

i shouldve specified, non terrible laptops from 11 years ago

theres something kind of funny about using a now 11 year old laptop for everyday things and having zero issues with any of it

like, nothing feels particularly slow, web browsing is fine, youtube plays fine, the few games this hardware can handle all play fine

speccy2.thumb.png.202712aad98614412d713b039b8ca547.png

if it wasnt for the mediocre graphical performance for what i need to do, using something like this daily is barely any different than any other system

all the people buying cheap modern laptops makes me question like, what are you really doing on them where you need that over just whatever you have?

this is now 10 generations of processor out of date, theres no noticeable difference between this and my P50 when it comes to regular usage (and even the P50 is now 5 years old)

Oh you have 2540M? Almost the same CPU with mine, 2520M. and... 16GB of RAM for that old laptop? THAT'S AWESOME!!1!!

How much did you buy it? In Vietnam brand new is ~680USD.

I got it for 80$ off of eBay about 2 years ago, after upgrades and stuff it’s definitely beyond 80$ but it’s a solid machine.

I taped a floppy disk drive to my thinkpad lid

up next, take the whole damn thing apart again because the key start slips and I need to glue it in place

also might see if I can just fit the floppy drive inside the dock with some deemed work

Guess not.

Personally, I think the idea of a glass mousepad is "almost, but not quite" for me.  We need hovermice.  Like magnets in the mouse and pad that repulse each other and allow the mouse to float on a cushion of air.  Not much.  Just enough to keep the mouse about .5mm off the pad.  You'd still have a hard pad; but now you have 0 friction, 0 noise, and no feet wearing out.

Not going to lie - hovermouse would be an awesome invention!

My biggest issue with glass mousepads is that I had to brush it off several times a day. I don't eat in front of my computer. Where is all the stuff coming from? 😐

I still remember the distinct sound when you drag your mouse over the mousepad and you feel the dirt just scratching under the mouse.... shudders

I bought some milk at my local grocery store and looked at the ad. Apparently some milk producers are giving away NFTs.

My university still has a couple of those hidden away in a biology lab labcart because there are a few pieces of software that never went beyond XP for support, or they got perpetual licenses for like version 1.0.2... A few run great and are nearly flawless, but most of them you can count the time between a click and when it registers, or when you search something: you can go to the Starbucks on campus and come back and it might be finished. Not to mention trying to connect to internet.... There are also a few that don't even make it past logon; you enter the OS and it just attempts to load the desktop until the end of time.
