The pronunciation of Nevada in recent videos is wrong, as a Nevadan...

ArisuSanchez

Hi LTT, in the recent videos where you said the state named Nevada, you said it improperly, calling it (ne-vah-dah) instead of the proper term (neva-da) the (nev) isnt heavily said at all and is more soft and quiet, even our own goverment gets this wrong along with television shows, but its neva-da not ne-vah-dah, as a person who lives in las vegas, nevada, much thanks for your coverage of ces when i was unable to attend this year

You do understand that accent makes a difference too? I recently heard two different ways to pronounce Caribbean, US English and UK English.

Yeah accent makes a difference in how people say things, but as another Vegas local I agree it's grating to hear someone say it wrong. Not a SINGLE person I've known here my whole life says it differently unless they're visiting and don't know any better.

It's not a massive deal, but saying it Nev-AH-Duh is wrong. Simple as that.

Funny how Americans refuse to properly pronounce the foreign names they use (looking at you, La Croix water). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nevada#Etymology

It's a Spanish word and thus "Nev-AH-Da" is perfectly correct.

And now a word from our sponsor: 💩

Ah yes, the D is silent. 🙃

The only time I get pissed with language is when people try to pronounce the J in words where it is silent or has an H or Y sound, like jalapeno, Johaan and Jarlsberg.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

also I'm a Nevada person and i the only one i hate hearing is na-vAd-uhhh but its all ta-mato ta-mahto just based on accents and also how you first heard something said.

Don't watch the first few minutes of the latest Car Trek series then...Think Tavarish pronounces Oregon three or four different ways.

Ew, Nevada “people” trying to pretend their state is real again.

We all know it’s just a gap between New Mexico and Utah.

I couldn’t care less how people pronounce state names. I speak as a resident of Indiana, where tourists regularly over-pronounce the “die” part which I personally sympathize with.

Or our terrible neighbors, the fips, “Illinois”. Where just out of spite I put a s at the end of it whenever I have to verbally enunciate “Illinois” as if it were an English word, just to annoy them.

Is it Mary Land, or Merrill Land? Or Meryl Lyn? Who cares, it’s a footnote of American contribution anyway.

La Croix wate

They really despise French naming, even some Canadians have anglicized their own family names.

My personal fave though is Martin Truex Jr., NASCAR champion.  They pronounce it Troo-ex.  It's a one syllable word they made into 2 so clumsily.
