is 1750 mhz safe on rtx 3070?

helohelo

hello

today i got a rtx 3070 and i saw that the gpu clock is 1750mhz but i read that the base gpu clock is 1500mhz.

is this normal or should i do something in the settings?

If it's factory overclocked to 1750MHz, I don't see why it shouldn't be okay.

If it's unstable at that clock, downclocking it with MSI Afterburner is always an option.

It's entirely possible that I misinterpreted/misread your topic and/or question. This happens more often than I care to admit. Apologies in advance.

Yes, the card will boost similar to your processor. By default the card will fluctuate in clocks and adjust for temperature and stability without needing user input. The default clocks you read are just the base clocks the card will run at, not the ones it will boost to. Don't worry about it and enjoy your games.

alright just one more question

i just undervoltet it to 1700mhz and the gpu voltage is now when idle 0.7volt and when gaming 0.9 volt is this normal when unvolting or should i change it back?

I'd change it back and keep it stock. Undervolting makes sense if the card is running really hot or your PSU is not able to handle it and you have no other option. Long term undervolting can cause stability issues and you will have to change voltages again to remain stable. Default voltages will be fine, also undervolting will void the warranty (if you send it in and the voltage is set to a different value, that information is stored on the card so they will know). Keep them stock and you will be fine.

yes, "base" ... they're underselling the boost clocks... heavily...

my 3070 boosts to 2010mhz regularly... its ok, because thats how nvidia boost works, the card will not clock to a level where it could get damaged, unless it's a broken game that does some weird stuff (super rare) or you go out of your way and would disable the protections (somehow)

tldr: 1750 is nothing  😛

ps: don't change any settings,  revert them if you did, its  not recommended at all to fiddle with the clocks etc if you don't have a basic understanding of what you're doing... especially in this case it seems counter productive,  just let the card at default settings and let it do its thing...

if you're interested in overclocking or undervolting you should install GPUZ and just check all the info (there is a lot, also in advanced) and also learn the boost behavior at default settings... thats kinda important to judge if what you did is even improving anything... and also try watching some tutorials etc.

Basically,  frequency can be high, thats what you want,  what determines the frequency is heat and voltage mostly... if you cool the card to very low temps the frequency can go much higher and with lots of voltage typically... its not really the voltage that kills a card, its the temps... the wires,  power delivery etc simply melts... (hence cooling is the way to go for overclocking)

undervolting is slightly different,  you still need to know the Nvidia boost behavior well, and also the methods how a proper undervolt is done and just like overclocking theres a lot of testing for stability and performance involved...

damn man i just want my gpu just not to consume 200+ watt cuz our energy prices are damn high

way simpler way to do that and much safer too.

just set a power limit in msi afterburner,  to like 90% or 70%

btw undervolting doesnt lower power usage generally... the card will just boost more and still use the same power... mine uses 270w stock, 272w with undervolt...

hence set a power limit, everything else makes very little sense to save power.

(vsync would work too btw)
