Hello there, i got the parts for my new PC today and this is my first time building a PC and since it was pretty expensive i don't want to screw anything up. I'm afraid i'll fry the CPU with static and i don't have any kind of anti-static wristbands and i don't plan to buy any since i won't be building ever again.

What is a good way to deal with static?

Any tips or info so i don't screw up?

Thanks ;)

touch the metal on your case.

I never wore a anti-static wrist strap before, no problems here.

Keep touching something metal or like above, you could touch a nearby radiator but make sure it isn't pressurized because you will burn yourself.

If OCD much applies to you run out to your PC shop and get an anti-static wristband for like $5.

Don't roll around on carpet before you build it and you should be fine. Aslong as you ground yourself every now and then should be fine

Everyone has said it, if you touch your case (preferrably bare metal like the back of the case or the screws) then you can't go far wrong mate.

I just got to get the boxes out of the biggest box in the world(boxception) and i got another question.

At the store i asked for a fan splitter since my motherboard only supports 3 fans and i have 9 fans. They recomended a Akasa FC.SIX fan controller when i exposed my problem, but now looking at the box it doesn't look like i can just plug 6 fan headers in there, any thoughts?

Plug PSU into the wall but dont turn it on, and simply touch the housing of the PSU every now and then. You should be just fine.

Oh yeah, dont build on carpet.

What I usually do is install my power supply into the case, plug it into the wall but keep the power switch on the rear of the PSU off whilst plugging in. This will ground the case, and you can keep touching components and yourself against the sides of the case to discharge fully.

I used to plug in my PSU into my case first and plug it in for a ground source but everything is painted over now'adays... You can try finding something else similar.

For example I plugged in an aquarium lighting ballast that uses a metal housing into a grounded plug and attached one of those anti static straps to it and strapped it to my ankle.

It's a good piece of mind even if you are brave and all that.

You know, I've never really concerned myself with static. I touch a metal door handle every ten minutes or so... but I also built all six current and past computers on the carpet floor of my room. So I'd do what others suggest, but I wouldn't worry too much.

Well if you want you can get one of those fan controllers and connect as many fans as it can then connect the remainder into the PSU using a molex to fan connector thing.
