How big of a UPS should I go for?

InfraDelta

I am planning to upgrade my system soon and was wondering if my 900VA/480W UPS will last till then.

Future PC config would be 13th Gen i5/ Ryzen 5 (7000) with a 4060/70 but since those havent come out yet we would be looking at 12600k and a 3070 on a 850w Gold PSU. Would it last at least 10 minutes for me to save and turn off everything when the power gets cut?

while gaming? no completely idle? probably, tho id still consider a 1500va APC UPS which is about 100-200 dollars

a 480W UPS won't handle a 3070 system at full tilt.

You'd need at least a 700W, preferably 800+

Id go as bug as you can afford. Most of them are too small to do much. Under full use and a monitor, you only get a few minutes to shut the system down.
But its nice to have for when the power cuts off briefly enough to shut down the pc and cleans up the voltage.
Like mentioned, 1500va is the smallest I'd go.

Main RIg Corsair Air 540, I7 9900k, ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero, G.Skill Ripjaws 3600 32GB, 3090FE, EVGA 1000G5, Acer Nitro XZ3 2560 x 1440@240hz

Spare RIg Lian Li O11 AIR MINI, I7 4790K, Asus Maximus VI Extreme, G.Skill Ares 2400 32Gb, EVGA 1080ti, 1080sc 1070sc & 1060 SSC, EVGA 850GA, Acer KG251Q 1920x1080@240hz

Lets say im just upgrading the cpu first to the 12600k/13th gen equivalent/R5 (7000)

would my current UPS suffice? (im just running a 1050ti with it)

also is 1500va/700-800w the most minimum or can I go with 1200va/650w as budget is a bit tight.

1200va should be fine too. i dont know what amperage the batteries in those come as but what i did with my 1500va is after the included 8amp hour batteries reached the end of their life i got 9amp hour batteries in the same form factor to replace them and got better runtime than when the 8amp hour where new

So basically when the batteries reach eol replace with same size more dense batteries?

ye, but the default batteries that come in a 1200va should be enough for your needs. Just suggesting the higher end ones when urs does die caues their not much more expensive

I would suggest 1500VA/1200W UPS. It's al little overkill, but you have more time to shut down the computer properly should the blackout last longer (more than 5 minutes) if the blackout happens when you're gaming.

Mostly it depends on the GPU.

A 12600K / 13600K is 200-250W give or take full tilt.

The 3070?  That can be 300+ on its own.  So a 500 is not gonna cut it.  (And 40 series is likely to up that draw some.)

A 1050 TI?  That's a 75W Max GPU.  That's a very different story.
