What are your expectations for the overclockable Pentium?

With the Haswell refresh we're getting an OC Pentium, and I must say, I'm giddy for it. Mostly because it sounds too good to be true for a Minecraft server.

If an average chip doesn't reach 5.5Ghz on a decent motherboard I will be disappointed.

What do you think?

I'm intrigued, but not excited. I do hope it's a great chip for the money though.

I expect it to be able to achieve performance at somewhere between an i3 and an i5 (in some applications, hyperthreading on the i3 skews this a bit) with the same power consumption as an i3. So essentially, I expect it to have better performance (after overclocking) than the i3 while using less power than the i3. But what do I know, most people think I don't know about processors these days

I am good at computer

Couldn't you use helium?

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

It'll be heavenly for emulation and single threaded operations that scale with clockrate <3

Couldn't you use helium?

Helium's boiling point lies around 4 Kelvin, so.... not really.  :D A friend of mine actually makes studies with super fluid helium :P

But to stay on topic: i hope it will sell for less than an i3. Like 80€ max. Then it's a good low price competitor.

who cares...

Hope you can oc it like slot PIIIs... mine was running at stock at 500 MHz... but reached 1 GHz with some fans :D(the mb obviously couldn't support it...)

Best overclocker I ever had was the Core2Duo E8400. Still running at 4.4Ghz (it was 3.06 stock) on a small air cooling heatsink :D

Though I didn't particularly fiddle much with overclocking until the Core2Duo era anyway. Bet my 486 DX/2 was a golden chip and I didn't even know it xD

I so want to buy like 4 of them, and just run them at like a ridiculous overclock until they die then just swap for a new one when it does die. LOL
