Downhill Mountain Biking Thread? Downhill Mountain Biking Thread

Probably won't be that popular, but lets get a DH MTB thread started! What's everyone else riding out there? Or we can talk about our dreams of going to Whistler!

Here's my first rig to rescue me from Joey status:p5pb10685378.jpg2012 Kona Operator- 200mm Boxxer RC, Fox VAN RC, Zee rear mech with upgraded 9spd cassette, Code brakes, changed stem to direct mount.

It makes me wonder, how much torque do you actually lose with a dual suspension bike?

I've never ridden a fixie or a bike without shocks on both wheels.

Well it all depends. If you are comparing a bike like mine to Darren's, a lot. I tried doing a short 10 mile road ride on the bike I posted above, and I was tired out pretty quickly. When you have 8 inches of suspension though, that is 8 inches of VERY loose, plush suspension. So it is a bit exaggerated and absorbs a lot more than a "normal" dual suspension bike. But it really does depend on a bunch of different factors (gearing setup, suspension setup, rider weight, etc.). But no matter what, there is a difference between full suspension, hardtail (only suspension in the front), and rigid.

Before I moved to the desert I was really big into trail biking and downhill biking with my friends, when I turned 14 I recieved a Specialized Epic Expert Carbon 29, from my grandparents, aunt, uncle, and my parents. Along with $500 of my own money, but I sold it before we moved. I really want to get a nice mountain bike for the winter months here

It's hard trying to pay for custom PC building and biking ;~; Maybe we should pick up one last expensive hobby, and try and make money off it...

I've never had a chance to do down hill mountain biking but I'm a fan of all cycling so I would really like to one day. Here is a shitty pic of my freestyle bmx bike though.

I've spent entirely too much money on mountain bikes over the years, but hey...they're great fun!

These days I find I'm leaning more towards 6" all mountain rigs than all out DH rigs. I like earning my descent.

I think next year I'll be building up a beast of a machine. Probably another Knolly.

Sweet dude, I love Knollys. I am more of a DH rider though cuz I just like the downhill. If I wanna ride uphill then I do cross country ;)
