Summary

NVIDIA says that they are investigating an attack that took their operations offline for about two days, no other details.

America’s biggest microchip company is investigating a potential cyber attack that has taken parts of its business offline for two days, The Telegraph can reveal.

Nvidia’s email systems and developer tools are understood to have been suffering from outages over the last two days, after what is believed to have been a malicious network intrusion.

Quote

The suspected hack comes amid Russian cyberwarfare against Ukraine and heightened security concerns about attacks on the West in retaliation for hitting the Kremlin with sanctions. There is no evidence linking Nvidia's outages to the conflict.
An Nvidia spokesman said: “We are investigating an incident. We don’t have any additional information to share at this time."

Quote

The intrusion was described by one insider as having “completely compromised” the company’s internal systems, although some email services were working on Friday. It is unclear if any data has been stolen or deleted from Nvidia or from its customers, or if the attack has merely disrupted its systems, and customers said they had not been informed of any incident.
The company is not yet believed to have identified a culprit.

My thoughts

Given the current situation, specifically in Europe, this might be major. Definitely something to keep your eyes on. Hopefully it won't lead to something worse. Maybe other companies have bee/might be hit soon as well. Be careful with your own security online as well.

I will provide more sources as soon as they come out.

As bad as the situation (possibly) surrounding this is, hopefully we’ll get some leaks on the 40-series cards.

And if it's true the TR40 will eat 800-850W or not.

I may be wrong but I doubt this is Europe related, there's many more profitable (info and disruption of $) targets for the current situation over there.

The idea of using the news cycle as a smokescreen for other actions against the company by competing corporations is far more likely. For all we really know its someone irritated at the 3090ti or a scalper wanting to extend their time in profits.

I don't think this is Russians. Well, Russia as a government sanctioned activity. It'd be a really odd target. Especially given that it could trigger Article 5.

A attack on a NATO country is a attack on all NATO countries. It was used only once, on 9/11.

Super mega doubt on this one, not that Nvidia wouldn't hack back but whoever is "saying this". A person said something on the internet.. he was believed.... lol

LAPSUS$ apparently posted that on one of their Telegram channels.

I honestly don't care that much about Nvidia or Lapsus group to do a proper check, but I do find it amusing 😆.

According to Dutch newspage, FlappySUS$ is blackmailing nVidia to stop the LHR otherwise they'll leak all of the compromised data.

Kitguru is saying it was a south American group who claim Nvidia kicked back but guru tends to just repost the same as everyone else.

It really does read like a 12 year old would write, which is why I'm just like "I doubt this hack even happened."
