Editing/4k capable gaming PC (respectable budget)

Recon-UK
Go to solution Solved by thedigitalmilk,

@Recon-UK Not to mention you would have to drop a huge amount of your budget on a 4K monitor, I say build the rig for 2.5K and in two years get a decent 4k monitor for a buttload cheaper, then chose from the inherently better graphics solutions at that time.

Second best and a few pints, and luxury perhiphirals sound a much better rounded package than just 2 of the best GPU's for a 5% improvement in a certain operation ;)

I do however fully take into consideration what you are typing :)

Alright, you are not going to max many games, and its not going to last long?

Nah 750D, 900D is a stupid case, overkill and build quality is questionable (coming from a corsair fanboy)

i would have selected the 750d but i went 900d to be comical

Quoted for truth, cost does not always equal quality.

Max settings does not equal sharpness of a 4K monitor, i think i made this obvious in my opening post that max settings is debatable, i know full well what i am getting into.

I also want to mention that max settings is more than overrated, i enjoy gameplay over graphics, but seeing things sharper does help with immersion.

I personally like to max stuff and as long as I get 60fps I'm happy, I just think that even though 290x's are beast, the titans are needs as you will have for fps and better graphics due to the fact that they have more VRAM.

I stayed with GTX 480 since 2010, only a few months back i added a 290 to my 1155 sig rig because it blew it's power phase (overclocked to the hilt for a solid 4 years+)

If my 480 was capable at 1080, how much faster is a 290 vs a 480?

4k is what? 4x higher res?

2x 290's would be more capable at 4k than the 480 was at 1080, i think?

I don't think so, the way games are progressing, the level of how demanding they have jumped in the last couple of years. But you might be right, worst comes to worst sell the 290's to some miners ;)

It doesn't entirely scale like that, there is factors like optimisation, drivers and VRAM

Agreed, but it is a scale we can use to try and compare though.

This may well be the best option i have, not only will 2 290's give amazing FPS at 2.5k, but yeah...... early adoption of 4k too, i did think about that.. hmm.

you can be 4k capable now. doesn't mean you have to use 4k right now. I personally am aiming to be ready for when I do buy a 4k monitor, when they become cheaper, 500-700 max, I can't justify 1 grand or more on a monitor, I just wanna be ready. :P

btw two 780 ti's (1400 dollars) can handle 4k, tight fit on vram, but they can. so personally I'd go for the titan blacks (twice the VRAM, which will place a definite role in 4k memory demands, 100% unlocked, so it's MUCH better at double-precision and it's a tad faster, all for 300-350 dollars more, is that too much to ask for all that you get? I personally think not, if you think of this as your new baby which you will have until it literally stops working, since you are spending so much on it, you might as well be relaxed and sure you made the better choice for a few hundred dollars (GBP, whatever) more.

As i stated earlier in this thread, beers and luxury perhipherals go a longer way than spending double amounts for 5% in a certain operation.

It is like buying a Bugatti veyron, only to go the highway speed by law, i may as well had bought a 1990 Ford Escort.

aight, if you must choose then. forget the titan's but if you insist on the 290. I must say. 780ti > 290

1GB VRAM difference, much faster memory and processor. (780ti wins)

At 2560x1440, the 780Ti is a huge waste of money.

4K is the same story, but add on top the cost of adopting 4K now, and the already downscaled graphics to play at 60+FPS (needed in competitive gaming).

Whaa, what? If you have forgotten 4K, fine suit yourself. But at 2.5k WHICH IS 260x1440 (1440p), the 780ti beats the 290/290x, same story at 1080p, it's not a waste at all. they are priced sorta the same as well, if you find a 300$ gap between the two and show it to me, then sure the 780ti is overpriced, but at 690-730$, both? 780ti CLEAR winner...
