54% of Steam games played for less than an hour, 36,9% never even played

KakaoDj

Some of my games I have on steam listed as 0 hours played is not true. They are old games I had before there was steam that I have played for hours and hours. I have later on added them to steam but not started afterwards.

Exampels are: Fallout III, IL-2 Sturmovik, CIV IV, Half Life 2.

I'm still running on my core i7-920

I recently counted up a similar statistic for my own games list.  Out of 324 games (though there are a few duplicates for some reason...) there are 160 that I have not played for more than 30 minutes.

There's a few in there that I tried and decided I did not WANT to play any longer, but let's call those the extreme minority.  I like to think that hey, at least I have a handful of games I've played for ~150 hours, but no, I'm terrible.  This wallet damage is a few years old, I've grown a little wiser, but I will need to be a lottery winner or unemployed for a lengthy period to ever play down that backlog.

I have got 357 games on steam, in a time span of 13 months.

90% of them are out of bundles and such and a few from sales I didn't play yet (Fallout, LA Noire, etc ).

I posted this already, but the images in my thread with the charts got borked (or maybe they're just not working right now, I dunno). Meh, whatever.

I can definitely relate to this.

well i know when i get a game for free that i do not care for too much, i often do not play it unless im extremely bored or something. But it does add value to my steam account so who cares?

Garry's mod - 800 hours

GTA IV - 450 hours

Skyrim - 250 hours

Fallout NV - 150 hours

Everything else has under 50 hours if I've even touched it at all. Doesn't really matter because software has no real value and Valve is making a huge profit whether we actually play the games or not.

Too many games, too little time. It doesn't help that I don't feel compelled to play games much anymore either. Even if I'm really excited to play something and follow it up till release, it comes out, I buy it, and it just sits in my library untouched. If I do decide to play it, I struggle to finish it even if the game is fun.

My line of thinking: Fallout New Vegas only 2$? Well I'm sure one day when I'll have no internet for a while that'll be the perfect game to keep me busy.

Some say he is still waiting for that day...

Well hopefully you have it downloaded and installed prior to you losing internet...

And my counterstrike is shown in minutes :D

You evidently need more Skyrim mods btw

And by the way isn't it funny that on the one side, we all admit to own games we haven't even played, yet on the other side we have Activision (through Blizzard) and EA forcing always-online DRM? Somehow, I really don't see the huge, apocalyptic, multi-billion dollar loss of profits due to the evils of piracy when we all have games we haven't even fucking played yet we already paid for.

This is what Valve means by distribution problem, I have another revised term however: Piracy is a pricing problem. Look at all this companies making profits out of games people did not even care to install and play (I'm pretty damn sure nobody would go out of their way to pirate this games if they don't care enough to download and play their legally purchased copies) and just like to have the option to eventually play.

My Steam Profile (from SteamDB)

Worth: $1116.24

Games owned: 92

Games not played: 53

Percentage: 58%

Hours spent: 306.5h

Figures. KOTOR, Counterstrike and Supreme Commander are my largest offenders, but I just don't game enough on PC to make spending EVEN MORE worth it. That 1200 is also matched by 1200 in consoles and games for those, but I damn well know I put more time into the consoles. Shit, MW2 alone was 200 hours of playtime, Halo 3 was...at least triple that. Lets not even get into NHL.

I feel bad for wasting so much on Steam sales, but I do it anyways. Its not some positive. The sales savings add to nothing if, as clearly shown, I'm not even playing the stuff.

This number is only going to go up more as Steam is stuffing itself with these god awful old games.

Steam isn't doing it, the developers making the bad games getting themselves on Steam are doing it.

Steam isn't doing it, the developers making the bad games getting themselves on Steam are doing it.

The only reason why this is happening is because people complained Steam was too heavy-handed, so they changed the policy to laissez faire, which is worse. While the devs are the ones dumping the games, Steam's change in policy is the root of the problem.

Banning 'bad' games doesn't make good ones come out faster or rise to the top quicker.

I gotta say that there isn't much Steam can do about this. This is like going to your local store and complaining to the manager "You don't have enough soft drink products!" and then 2 months later complaining "You have too many of this cheap, knock off soft drink products" I mean Coke and Pepsi are still being sold, you're the ones who bitched about the lack of puke-cola choices on the shelves and now you want em gone?

IM sort of a culprit, Ill play a few games off my normal ones, then go back to the staple of Arma 2 and GTA IV.  Wouldn't be surprised though, I sometimes just buy games because there a good deal, not because I like them.  Mostly indies, so im not a huge prick supporting pointless buying.
