Episode one was promising in a cheesy way, but episode two went "full retard" and turned it into yet another highschool anime about kids with superpowers, basically. 10/10 would rage+facepalm again.

I love shitty anime about OP teenagers in school. But holy shit, the last 4 reviews in MAL gave it scores from 2 to 6, is that bad? The common "complain" is that it's generic, but i like generic.

 

I wouldn't say it's bad, but it isn't good. At the least it visually looks kinda nice. It's still fresh in my mind I shove my opinion at you.

 

It's super duper generic, down the the title and design. It gets to the point where if you had a theme, device, and plot roulette, this anime could be made from it.

 

MC is as vanilla as possible, which is good and bad. He's not Onii-sama (MKR) or Kirito and he's not quite Yuuki (MN) or some harem male, but arguably he doesn't matter that much to the anime (yet?). He's kind of like the Akari (YY) of shounen. Yeah, he's there, yeah he does stuff. Not much else to say. In the entire 12 episodes IIRC all he did was block a strike here and there and then does something mildly asspully at the season finale.

 

For better or worse, he's there to push the plot, not save the day. I think that's better than him conquering everyone, albeit he still has latent shounen MC power syndrome and absurd plot armor.

 

Real star player in this anime is Shinoa, only scenes of interest revolve around her interaction with someone else. In many ways, you would probably be better off considering her the main character. Similarly Mikakunin Definitely not a Kirito road trip.

 

The kids in here don't have formal super powers and the typical highschool bullshit was only for a few early episodes, so I would be hesitant to lob it in with that, but it is targeted towards the younger audience.

 

This is part of why MAL sucks. You can't complain it's generic and give something an absolutely shit score while remaining objective. By definition generic is not bad. This is a great example of a studio putting out something extremely safe. I'll give it a 5.5/10 without using weighted MAL score. True MAL score would land this somewhere in the mid to lower tier of 7.

 

Worst part is it completely lacks focus. They're out there poking bloodsuckers and the actual plot doesn't get introduced to the characters until near the end of S1. The audience is aware of the plot before the characters in this one. They flat out spent too much time doing too many different things and building too large of a universe. They're squeezing in too much, and at the end it's going to rupture when you try to pull everything out in a quarter or less of the time you spent to put it in. They managed to go as far as suggest romance near the end.

 

You can mark my words now, this will have a piss terrible S2 and conclusion or horrid pacing issues, or both, or no conclusion. It has the setup of something that needs to be longer in order to properly finish and close off what they're starting. See quote below.

 

If that wasn't annoying enough they decided to use misunderstandings as a point of contention.

it's making me super weary, though.

I finished S1, and I give it an "ok" watchable rating. But with season 2 it's got bad signs looming on it.

It basically has a setup for either a really shit ending, a completely open ending, or a long running 50 episode minimum shounen.

They've built up too much, so I'm really anxious about S2.

 

I'd say watch it if you have nothing better to do.

You @eelnico09 liked Ao Exorcist (wasn't too fond of it) so you will very likely like Seraph.

I just finished Overlord EP1. Not really what I expected. Rolled my eyes a bit at the first fucking thing we did with Albedo. I'm somewhat weary of this type of anime having dealt with so many others like it that have all left terrible impressions.

So someone asked me to suffer through the rest of Overlord with them (yes, that's how they phrased it).

 

Overlord (9). disappointing.

That's it? Pre~tty lame, Milhouse. Well, I'm glad that Clementine's dead at least (what a pointless and obnoxious character), but this episode was as entertaining as watching gradeschoolers trash talk and playfight. If it wasn't for the "shocking " scene, this would have been utterly devoid of any entertainment value. I mean, I don't mind OP protagonists when they're done well, but when practically every anime has them you have to try a bit harder than two CG skeletal dragons that barely do anything, and a villainess who simply dashes at her target to stab them. Weaksauce much? In effect my reaction to the episode was the same as the MC's reaction to that lame stinger at the end: huh? Talk about having a crippling lack of creativity.

 

Overlord (10). so-so.

You know, I wouldn't mind the conceit of this episode if it was executed in a less mundane way. But wasting it on Shalltear boredly attacking people, only to have her randomly go berserk and then end up mind-controlled was plenty lame. It's not fun to watch her acting bored, and then turn into a silly-looking demon thing and tediously slash at people. It's bizarre to see her suddenly go all unhinged at the drop of a hat. Maybe they could have spent more time explaining why she would be that stupid or blindly wrathful? Or at least shown us some more inventive abilities or kills? I mean it's painfully obvious that they're just making this story up as they go along, so it's depressing that they can't at least make it more interesting or fun. And aside from giving the potion girl a pointless cameo here, I still see no absolutely no point to the entire last arc of this anime. What did it add? Hopefully they'll at least come up with some BS reason for it, because it would be a sad waste of time otherwise.

Like in English, excessive used of indefinite simile is perceived as childish. It lends an immature, cutsie sort of feel to Yuudachi's in-game character. Of course, since most of the people who play either WOWS or Kancolle know enough Japanese to understand the nuance, I suspect people say it because it's funny and Yuudachi is cute
