Can a 4k 144hz monitor run at 144hz at lower resolutions?

mochiburrito

Never thought id ask a tech question before because i usually just research but i couldnt find anything (maybe im phrasing the question wrong). I have a 1080ti (waiting on 30 series to be available) and someone offered me a really good deal on a LG gn950 its a 4k 144hz display and i know about the dp1.4 dsc stuff but i was wondering if i could still run this display with my card at lower resolutions like 1440p at 144hz. Any insight would be appreciated. Im getting the display for super cheap thats the only reason im considering it but I just hope i can game at 144hz at lower resolutions than 4k. My 1080ti has 3 (1.4 dp) and 1 (2.0b hdmi) ports, just in case you need to know in order to give me options.

so as long as the monitor supports 144hz it should be able to perform at the same hz at all lower resolutions?

yes. You might even be able to run it at higher refresh rates at lower resolutions (1080p 240hz), but that's monitor overclocking and a whole other can of worms.

it'll be at the same refresh rate and should support 1080p, 1440p, might be slightly blurry though

You want to use a resolution to fit into 4k evenly.

1440p, 720p will have issues.

1080p will fit into it perfectly.

Bute the refresh rate will remain the same

99% sure all monitors are capable of downscaling their resolution.

Upscaling. Downscaling is sending a higher resolution to the monitor, then it will make it fit the monitor.

Upscaling is sending a lower resolution and making it fit the monitor

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

720p fits evely into 4K

It does?

checks math

ope yea, thats one 720p pixel per 9 4k ones.

I shouldve been more specific, im used to 720p being 1360x768, thats wqhat I meant
