Posted October 2, 2021 I bought new fans be quiet! Shadow Wings 2 120mm. I found 1 black and 3 in white, not many stores has them in white or generally in stock, so i ordered the 4 fans as an upgrade (on there way) I just found out i forgot to check if all fans are 4 pim pwm fans, the 3 white fans are 3 pin, i did wanted to have 4 pin fans For the most quiet,even sound should i change the 3 fans to pwm fans if i can find a store that has the fans ? https://digitalworld839.com/3-pin-vs-4-pin-fan-difference-between/ Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options... You can use 3 pin fans and control their fan speed by changing the voltage. Posted October 2, 2021 Author I know can control them using my mb, my curent fans are 3 pin it's just the noise,sound, if the 3 pin fan are more prone to have click noise,uneven sound compared to 4 pin of the same fans and the 4 pin fans can go lower I think i wil run them at 600-700 rpm. Posted October 2, 2021 Author Most mb if not all moderne mb can control 3 and 4 pin fans they are now connected to my msi mb in my corsair 4000d airflow cabinet I know them from a dark shadow 3c cpu cooler (i upgradede it to the best be quiet dark rock pro 4) and are easily as good as the best noctua fans with the same max rpm Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options... Ticking sounds tend to be from pwm and not dc since the power is delivered in pulses. Lower rpm can be achieved with pwm since it can use 12v which has fewer issues with lack of startup voltage. Minimum rpm varies but many good 3pin fans can go down to 30% rpm and 600-700rpm is usually well within that range.
