Intel Says Their Chips Are Now Conflict Mineral-Free

A good portion of the raw materials used to make today's modern electronics are bought from poor and poverty stricken countries where war and genocide are often complexly intertwined with the obtainal of the said materials.

Apparently, earlier this year, Intel pledged to end their involvement in the purchasing of the conflict minerals used to make their products, and said they will only be buying from suppliers which have been verified as conflict-free.

"Verified" as "conflict free". It is kind of horrible that this is a thing but either way I applaud Intel for this.

For the price Intel charges for CPU's I should damn hope so.

 

Not something that they should show off, If anything they should be ashamed for using conflict minerals in the first place.

This is such a hypocritical statement. I still haven't forgotten about the fabs that Intel built on occupied Palestinian territories and still uses to manufacture CPUs and SSDs.

umm. I really dont care where someone gets something as long as I get want I want. that may sound insensitive but I am much more for a market than "green, peace, lovin" type situations. I have my reasons but I dont want to start a war in this tread.

If you knew the cost of R&D, manufacturing facilities and the cost of manufacturing itself (it takes over 1 month to make a modern chip!) you would find the margins to be almost reasonable.

that because it take an absurd amount of research to know if they are truly conflict free, watch blood diamonds and that gives you an idea of how such things are manage
