.. and why?

3 2 1 go

Does that work with other people you know?

What budget range?  Best is just going to get the most obscene laptop out there.

...is the one where you can easily type on it and transfer the code to be compiled in a computer. So depending on your main workstation that would be an M1 macbook air, or a myriad of windows laptop with built in LAN ports.

And then, budgets. Obvious question on us.

with "best" i meant "best" regardless of cost... so unlimited budget... or I would just get a dell xps but I'm curious if anybody has any particular personal experience recommendation...

Maybe someone bought something and was disappointed then tried something else and found out it was perfect for his use scenario...

My workstation at home is OP, it's not about that.. I think it's more about portability (weight and battery) without compromising on other stuff (shitty build quality or uncomfortable or unreadable display)..

Honestly i believe the fact it's for software development should make all these things obvious to somebody who can make an informed suggestion

Sorry to burst your bubble, but no, nothing is obvious to somebody who can make an informed suggestion.

Regardless of what your budget is, there so many things to take into consideration here, from places you work from, type of keyboard, screen size, if aesthetics are important to you, etc. To be able to suggest something to someone, you first need to know their use case, and what they are after.

The one that has the ergonomic features that appeal to you most. Along with some beefed up specs on whatever model you choose.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Honestly, I would think that someone who already has an OP Desktop and knows exactly their needs are would be able to find what they're looking for 😉

And frankly, EVERYONE asks for "best" and then they clarify "Under $100" later.  So forgive me for asking.

Btw, when you're asking people for help, may want to be a little less rude about it.  In the future, of course.

What kind of software development, and requirements are required for you type of job.

Its better to write you exact needs, since we dont know are you gonna be satisfied with 8,16,32gb of ram or hell maybe you need 64gb of ram.

If the applications you do,need more then 4 cores, how much storage is required, what size you prefer of display you like.Is the battery needed for work consisting for 10+ or just few hours.

What type of keyboard to you preffer, what is the budget. This are the things you should write first so people can make an informed suggestion at start.

OK I apologize to everyone.. I didn't mean to be rude but i realize how that might have sounded...

So for all my passion, more performance critical project I have a workstation at home...

What I need is a laptop that i can easily and effortlessly carry around for whenever I need to be at the office (meetings, sprint starts) or for emergencies (eg need to fix or check something when I'm at the gf's place).. To be fair it won't do all that much programming... And it's mostly going to be to web apps (so node, angular etc... these days all the stack is mostly typescript)

That said i want it do be snappy and responsive on anything I do cause money is not an issue here: if it's worth it, I'll gladly pay the money.

That said I can't just take the latest gaming laptop and just "well if i need the performance it's there" cause that obviously comes at the cost of weight/noise/heat/etc.....

So I'd like something that's solidly built yet light enough to be carried around comfortably.. And by that I also mean it would be a huge plus not to have to bring a power brick with you at all (long battery life) or at least being able to use a regular usb c power brick (fuck razer and their proprietary, unbuyable power brick)...

I know the new macbooks (even tho I'm not an apple guy) are pretty good so I was hoping to find something similar that is not apple...

But mostly I'd like to hear personal experiences of another developer who has bought a laptop and is really happy about his choice and will 10/10 recommend it...

Reviews only tell half the story here..

EDIT: I don't care if it's arm based.. like i said: mostly everything work related these days is on node so....

Thats better.

Since those are web apps, you dont need a powerhouse for it,so no need for 2k+ CHF laptop for that.

Dell XPS line look really good, but if you go to Dell XPS subbredit their Quality Control is pretty shit a lot of time.

But since money isnt a problem Xps 13,with  i7,16gb,512gb ssd, integrated gpu(since no gaming, and will help with cooling and battery life),3456x2160 OLED touch screen is 1529 CHF,on dell.ch.

Lenovo is about same price but as far i heard better QC.

That is about top limit for your needs. You can go even cheaper, and it will still be overkill.

Then i'll just make it simple and without much hassle about every single possible parameter:

If all your Applications run (if native, even better) on Apple Silicon, get the best Apple Silicon you can afford. 16" if you need sioze, 14" if portability, the Updgrades you need for your work. No reason to get 8TB SSD, if you never fill up more than 700 gb.

How efficient the Chip is, how it stays cool and silent at almost every Task, same Performance on battery than plugged in, best Trackpad, best Speakers, one of the best Displays...

And that incredibly sick Batterylife, that completely takes 1 worry away from your daily life.

And still Unix-based Terminal, so you're quite close to Linux.

And even if you're not getting the Benchmark-Crown in Cinebench, it's extremely snappy and fast. One of the Reasons is "Qualify of Service".

That's reason enough for "Apple Silicon Notebook > Every Windows/Linux Device" - as long your Applications run on it.
