Seems too good to be true, I know, but with the circumstances there were enough indicators to suggest it COULD be real (and I already bought it so we'll see).

I determined it was worth the risk given the seller's small but good reputation and the fact China is cracking down on crypto currency mining. So it's reasonable to think it could be a miner getting rid of a card.

But then there's all of this weirdness. They had another less powerful card with a similiar pricing scheme, except they had it as $11,000 for shipping. The rest of their listings were shorts...like the clothing. And not too long after I bought the card the listing closed despite supposedly having more cards. I don't have a way though to tell whether or not the listing was closed by the seller or got flagged as a scam like all those cheap phillipines gpu listings they say they're removed when you click them.

And actually, looking again there are now several more similar listings from other hong kong users.

Anyway, last thing is the guy I bought from also closed ALL of their other listings as well. I really don't know what to think. They're certainly a weirdo if not a scammer.

A card that sells for $1000+ now being sold for 10% of its MSRP DESPITE still being almost impossible to get. Edit: Just saw the shipping cost and I would still steer away from buying that card.

There are literally no such indicators to even suggest that a $99 RTX 3090 is legit.  For sale yes?  For sale for less than a disgusting price?  Sure.  $99?   Hell no.  I can not even fathom how you could possibly read, from any of that, that a $99 3090 is anything but a scam.

Good luck with your PayPay/eBay dispute.

It's not a $99 card, it's a $1249 card, they just moved it all to shipping. It's scammy at best and the auction will probably even be cancelled by ebay (this is done to skirt ebay fees).

A NEW 3090 under MSRP, nullifies your China mining argument.  It's not a used mining card now out of service.

So yes, you got scammed.  You'll get your $1200 back in a few.

"Worth the risk" is a psychologists wet dream.  Keep telling yourself that, only you are believing it.

Tell me, exactly what you got for being out $1200 even for a few days and the time to post this?  Not a thing.

I'm 100% fine with people being prey to scammers.  Spend your money how you want.  But justifying it with crap is... crap.  Own your mistake.  Own it!!! 🙂

Most of the cost is in shipping. I'd be stupid to think it was legit if the full cost was only $99.

I'm kind of curious what made you think it was legit as it could not be more obviously a scam.

I've never heard from the other sides of the fence on these types of scams and it always makes me wonder if the person is either maybe way too young or way too old or has never used the internet or what.

I don't see how the shipping cost is a red flag. It's weird but they're still charging a high price. The seller also has a good reputation as well, which is the biggest reason I think it may be real. I am just going to wait the full shipping duration cause there's always ebay's money back guarantee. If thwy send me junk, I'll get my refund.

It could be fake reviews, also moving over the cost to shipping is probably a dumb trick to get dumb people to think it's $99 and then buy it and then the scammer get's all shipping money and ends up just not sending you anything (or they just send some crap wish shit)

The thing is you might need to fight more than normal to get a full refund, if you can at all. You bought a $99 item which is not as described, so here's your $99 back. Rest was shipping fees that "got spent", bye.

Why are you being so careless with your money, dude?

I mean I get it.  There are TONS of rich gamers out there now.  But ......why?

What you just did was worse than buying a scam $1100 card + $100 shipping.

The high shipping cost is still very scummy, the sale would be more legit if they just sold the card for what its worth and charge a reasonable shipping rate.

I checked that already to see if shipping shenanigans are common and the money back guarantee covers that. It explains that all shipping costs are included in the refund, so that wouldn't be an obvious scam indicator.

If I go look at the actual reviews which make up this seller's "good reputation" will they all be for sales of fashion items more than a year ago?

It's laughable that you somehow thought there was any remote possibility this was legit.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

Oh boy...

If eBay lets that sale stand and you get a defective card you are absolutely screwed out of $1,150. Say it's defective or whatever and you request a refund... you only get $99 back. Shipping costs are non refundable unless the seller wants to be a nice dude and I doubt they want to be a nice dude. They have no obligation whatsoever to refund said shipping costs.

Good luck...

Ebay has it so you pay a fee on what you sell, the shipping fees are exempt.  So it's a way to get around paying Ebay, more than anything.  Usually they catch it though and kick the listing.
