Best Over-The-Ear Headphones for Under $150?

I'm looking to upgrade from my Turtle Beach X12s with a Blue Yeti microphone.  I will mostly play games and listen to small amounts of music.  I am looking to go for less than $150, but I am willing to budge if necessary.  Suggestions?

Maybe DT 990 Pro or HD 558? Also buy an AMP and DAC.

Are you looking for open headphones (leak sound, others can hear a little of your music/game and you can hear what's going on around you, create best surround sound, allow flow of fresh air to your ears, best if used indoors) or closed headphones (better noise cancelling, get your ears warm after a while, best for using out and about)?

Also don't buy an amp and dac without trying headphones by themselves first :)

I bought Sennheiser HD558s recently and I can run them on my desktop, laptop, iPod classic, phone, etc without using an amp.

Yup, they have a great soundstage for gaming and sound good for the price - especially considering they're closed. They were actually made in collaboration with Fostex.

I'll be honest, when I first plugged them in, all excited, then heard them I was like "okayyyyy..." At first I didn't see a difference between them and my old gaming headset...Then I used them the rest of the night and switched back to my gaming headset the next day to see if there was a difference going backwards, and holy shit, it was horrible compared to the hd558s. My ears were too used to shitty audio beforehand lol

you need to burn in most headphones, so they did get better. I did notice the same thing when I tried my old $10 earbuds, but I had noticed a difference at the start.

I recently got my hand on audio technica ATH-AD700 (without X), and they're really good (review coming soon). I got it at around $100. Lack of bass, but nothing my xonar DG couldn't fix. Just fiddled around the EQ on the xonar, and it's all good. Balanced mids and highs, and very comfortable to wear for continuous hours. Good for gaming sound details and 3D, as well as musics. It's discontinued though, so you might have to find an old store stock, or look in ebay.

Another one I found good is the ATH M50. With flat EQ, a little too much bass (may not be too much by your standard), but sounds good in mids and highs (yeah I fell in love with audio technica's mids and highs :) ). Not as comfortable as the AD700 for prolonged use though, but less bulky and more stylish to wear outdoor.
