The RTX 3080 Ti is 1.5x faster than its predecessor [the RTX 2080 Ti] ... with 12GB of G6X {GDDR6X] memory, and a 384 bit memory interface.

Quote

The RTX 3070 quickly became our most popular Ampere GPU. Now we're adding a "Ti" to this class of GeForce, with more cores and super-fast memory ... it's 1.5x faster than a 2070 Super.

My thoughts

Well, amidst all the rumors and leaks the actual announcements are live. The most notable thing, from my understanding, that doesn't line up with our knowledge from rumors and leaks is the expected MSRP of the 3080 Ti. I'm extremely skeptical of how the price-to-performance of the 3080 Ti will actually size up with this $1200 asking price. I know, I know, jacked-up prices due to the market, but this is a depressing reminder to me of just how bizzaro-world everything has gotten with GPU pricing. I mean, they tout the 3080 Ti as being 1.5x the speed of the 2080 Ti, but the 3070 itself trades blows with that card. When your models start at $1200, I have little faith that this will scale well in terms of price-to-performance with even the most expensive 3070 partner models. I wouldn't even be surprised if, when the benchmarks for the 3080 Ti come out, we see price-to-performance that rivals the 3090 in terms of piss-poor value. At least the 3070 Ti price seems to be not... entirely insane, though they kinda pigeon-holed themselves between the 3070 and 3080 with that one.

Of course, none of this matters when the primary objective is to just get a GPU, and we'll immediately see this card listing on eBay for at least $2500.

Sigh.

Also, apologies if I jumped the gun by posting this, or didn't do something properly. This is my first time doing a Tech News post.

Ah yes, the moment when you can put the 3070 TI at the same MSRP as the 3080 because you know full well nobody is gonna be able to buy either for near $699.

That's my bad, that's a typo on my end. MSRP for the 3070 Ti starts at $599, not $699.

3080ti at $1200 was... unexpected, but cant say im surprised

i was expecting $999 but then again... today's climate probably pushed it up

and it'll be way higher in market anyways

only 12gb of G6x though

no i need da vrams im constantly at ~ 7+GB usage in several games, Id like to use higher textures and stuff…

I also definitely knew 8GB would be a problem , coming from a 8GB 1070.

I really wanted to go AMD this time, i even waited for their release, but, none available 🤷‍♀️

PS: im not complaining ,perfomance is fine overall but I really  think a ti would have been a good opportunity for Nvidia to up their ram, isnt there even free slots on the card??

But this just seems to be Nvidia being Nvidia.  (and you cant even blame them, there is no competition whatsoever…)

At 1.5 times a 2080ti's performance it would surpass a 3090 as that card is at best 40% faster than a 2080ti. Probably just marketing bs or they actually just put out a 3090 with half the vram.

The 3080 TI is at least $200 overpriced, but it should really be $900 to be a better price/performance value. It's basically the awkward middle child of the 30 series lineup.

780ti - $699

980ti - $649

1080ti - $699

2080ti - $1199 ?!

3080ti -$1199 ?!

I think I'm swerving another year, even if these cards were retail price.... and in stock....

It's a shame, because I've always seen the Ti cards as sort of "titan performance for just over 80 prices", so they always seemed like really good deals to me. Not anymore.

The 3080Ti for $1199, and 3070Ti for $599, these seem overpriced as the 3080 was supposed to be $699, and the 3070Ti would be $100 less than the 3080 if prices were even remotely normal. But it's hilarious to me that Nvidia even lists MSRP prices because no founders or AIB cards are going to sell for anything close to MSRP.

I fear that £/€/$1,000+ GPU's are now just going to be 'normal' pricing.

People seem to think that there's something crazy about the pricing at the moment (and that's fair), but I don't expect for a second that prices are going to return to anything like they were before.

Remember the 2080 and 2080ti were massive hikes in price and that was pre pandemic.

The value offered by GPUs today will probably never match what it used to.
